A couple weeks ago we got a call from DH's credit card company (he has one for work that earns points) "early fraud alert" department. They said someone was using his credit card number and they were going to have to close the account and issue him a new number. No problem.
He got the bill a couple days ago, $1300 in charges that were not his. About $800 to a Wal-Mart in Detroit, a few small ones at McDonald's, and a couple at a grocery store. He called the credit card company to find out how to proceed, and he asked how could this happen when he didn't lose the card? He still has the card in his possession. They said the thief made a new one, similar to the way people make fake I.D. cards. Wow.
It's no wonder credit card interest is so high, they have to pay for charges these jerks run up on fake cards. It's sad, really.
