My kids are obsessed with Star Wars, but I just don't see the value in going the DHS this year for just that. Gasp...AK might be a better bet this trip.
My kids are obsessed, too. But only since December, when we marathoned the original trilogy and then took them to see Ep. 7 the following week. All of the SW stuff in HS is new to them - they were never interested in our prior trips. As far as they know, this IS Star Wars Land. It's like a whole new park for our family.

They'll be 4 1/2 on the next trip in October. They don't know the stuff exists. My wife is really hemming and hawing about going to DHS, since there's just not a lot to do for them. Decisions, decisions!

If they aren't into star wars yet, it won't be worth the visit, unless you have plenty of days on your trip.

Yeah, at 4 1/2, DHS might be tough, unless they're really in Disney Jr. - that's what mine enjoyed at that age. For us, not only will all three of my kids love the SW stuff, but RNR is my daughter's favorite ride, so it would have been tough to skip this year. Should be interesting to see if this is a full-day park for us or not. We'll be skipping the Frozen and Disney Jr. stuff, for the most part.

For as minor as the Launch bay stuff was, my 7 year old spent a full day at DHS, between waiting to get a spot in Jedi training....Waiting in the launch bay to meet chewy and kylo, and star tours several times as well as participating in JTA, one stop at LMA and the fireworks, we somehow chewed up a day(closed at 8). Didn't touch toy story, tot or RnR.

Here's just raw searches for a term:

There's no compare. Also interesting that compared to Avatar, Frozen has stayed much more prominent longer in searches. It seems to have much greater staying power even if it never reached the same level.
i love google trends
if you add the avengers you see how it compares to the others
one of these is not like the other

I've shown them videos of the Academy, and neither of them want to do that (they're a bit timid with that sort of stuff). They loved the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground last time (gone), and the Animation Building (of all things). Other then that, there wasn't much they could do at 3 when we went last time. I think they'd freak out on Star Tours, and not in the good way. They can't ride ToT or RnRC. Think we'll skip it this year.

They'd probably like the Launch Bay, but I can't see wasting a day off a ticket for them on that alone. And they're not huge Disney Jr. fans.

We went to DHS for our first time in a while this weekend. DW has been too pregnant to make it through the parks so we just now got around to it. Man DHS is like a whole new park already. We didn't do our research before going and I was shocked at how much Star Wars was there. There are several films around the park, the show in front of the theater where several characters come out, Launch Bay (which was AWESOME...like a Star Wars museum type place), meeting Kylo Ren and Chewy. If you're kids don't want to do the academy I would at least go see it, that way next time maybe they will. Also the Academy show isn't as bad as it used to be in my opinion. I found the Kylo part to be very entertaining. Then there is of course Star Tours.

Lots of Star Wars stuff to do.

They say area c would be for environmental purposes but according to permits that's going to be parking.

I think you are mis-reading what they said:

"Area C was the planned for expansion area we had seen in filings with the water district for environmental studies" I think they are saying that it was an environmental impact permit, but that it's be used for that purpose. As for location B, I don't think this will be parking, I think this will be the new parking entry booths are. This are is shown in the permit but it's not as large as they have made it on their map.

Ok makes sense. I don't think b becomes parking either. I'm interested as to if they are doing garages anymore though. You'd think they would want to get started on those ASAP.

If SWL has actually been move to the LMA area, which I am thinking it has, then the garages become much less urgent, or maybe not necessary at all.

Wouldn't you think they still need expanded parking though? I have never parked at DHS so I'm not familiar with the situation but the two new lands will surely make the park more popular.

I will say that when I parked there yesterday, the park was very busy and we are talking mid April crowds. The parking lot was nowhere near full.

But there are only 4 parking categories as opposed to what MK has. I'm not sure the amount of parking compared though.

Won't Star Tours be in another area from the expansion though?

It appears so. There are rumors out there now that this might be converted into a totally different IP based ride in the future. Who really knows though?

Agree, the new lands will completely overwhelm that parking. I think those land/water permits for the new entrance on Victory could very well lead to more parking in that raw land and a restructured front entrance which is currently very poorly designed for rope drop and closing. Those things could be done quickly if it's not stacked parking to coincide with the SW land opening.

That would be a shame. I hope that it stays and becomes part of the expansion somehow. But that might endanger the Muppets... :headache:

The are in yellow between the canal and the current park is supposed to become parking. Even as just a surface lot this would be a 50% increase in parking. Since the original rumored plan for SWL was that it would go out into the parking lot they would have probably needed more parking the just surface lots could handle, thus the need for garages.
