I went to do our taxes this afternoon and after gathering all of the tax paperwork, etc.. I went to get my DD's social security card. I placed it in our desk when it came earlier this year and honestly I have not thought much about it. A few times this year I needed the number so I got the card out, put the card in my wallet and put the card back in the desk when I returned. Since she is so new I don't have a clue what her number is so you can imagine my panic when I could not find the card!!!

Just on Tuesday I meant to get the card out of the desk because we were taking DD to the dentist and I figured I might need the number. I didn't think it would be in my wallet but that afternoon I still opened my wallet and checked all the little pockets just to be sure. I asked DH if he had her card by any chance and he told me that it was not in his wallet. OK, that really didn't bother me because even though I checked my wallet and asked him to check his I still figured the whole time it was in our desk.

I spend an hour tearing about our desk and going through every piece of paper in our filing cabinet in a frantic search for the card. I figured it must have somehow hitched a ride out of the desk with a piece of paper or something. I climbed under and around the desk, etc... I was really getting upset and I just knew that DH was going to be upset when I told him that I had somehow lost her card.

Well lo and behold DH called me after he gets out of work and I give him the bad news. I say I'm sorry but that we can't file our taxes until I get that number, etc.. and that I might have to go to the local SS office next week, etc.. Well guess what? That is when my DH decides to actually open his wallet and look and guess what he finds right there? DD's social security card! He apparently needed it for something a month or two ago and he forgot he had it. My question is why didn't he look when I asked him to and why did he tell me it was not in his wallet when he didn't even look? :confused3 Him taking 30 seconds of time to actually look on Tuesday could have saved me an hour of desparate searching and prevented a few hours of additional stress. He frustrates me so much when he does stuff like this. It is not the end of the world and I still love him but this is not the first time something like this has happened and it won't be the last. :rolleyes1

OK I should feel better now, right? :teeth:

Sorry about your frustration. I needed and could not find our SS#s so many times over the years that I finally made a list of each family member and the SS#, hid it in a safe place only I knew about, and I've been good to go ever since. I also went down to the County Clerk's office and bought about six copies of each of our birth certificates, certified of course. (It helps that both DDs and I were all born in this county!) These have come in very handy as well. They were about three or so dollars apiece, and I keep them in a file drawer in my closet. It was a good investment, knowing I have spares should I need them!!

This is what you get for getting married to a man. :lmao:

:rotfl:

My wife and I have each others SS# memorized. Way back in the day (long before online registration) we had to signup for college classes in person in the university's ballroom. She had another class to get to so I stood in for her, waiting until someone else came by to drop a class she wanted before snatching the spot for her.

When our son was born, we filled out the paperwork at the hospital and were told he'd have a SS# within three months. We waited. And waited. Finally my BIL called for something and remarked that at the hospital he was comptroller for no child left the hospital without already having one! So, I hoofed over to our Federal Building and stood in line. We finally got it straightened out, and a week later my son got his card. Unfortunately, the ink jet printer must have had a bit of a bad day because one of the numbers was wrong -- the number we all read as 5 was actually a 6 whose loop wasn't fully closed! I was thrilled to find that out when our taxes for that year were rejected because my son's SS# was incorrect!
