DH Thinks I'm Crazy for Packing So Soon!

Just look at my ticker! Am I insane for packing for our eight day trip already? Especially considering I'm the only one doing any packing or planning (no complaints--I'm a Virgo and loving it!)...

Please tell me I'm not alone in packing this early...

I don't think you are crazy, better to be ready then to wait to the last minute lol~

Nope, not crazy. Although I'm assuming you are only packing stuff that's not needed in the next 8 weeks.

I start packing about a month before, but that entails putting the suitcases on the guest bed and haphazardly tossing in stuff that I've purchased for the trip or stuff that I won't need before the trip. It's easy to come home from the store and unload the extra batteries, new bottle of sunscreen, etc. directly into the suitcase rather than stow it away somewhere and have to retrieve it a few weeks later.

Nope not crazy!

I thought that I was the only one I have started packing too! It's so hard because we will soon becoming into summer so I have to figure out what I need to leave out too!

I am ready to leave tomorrow but I have to wait 59 more days.

I always try to pack early. DW thinks I'm crazy, but then she always ends up staying up late doing laundry or something the night before we leave.

I like to have my suitcase ready and then I can throw things in as I think about them throughout the week. Otherwise, I always forget something important.

Me and the boys (hubby can't come ) leave in 12 days and I have not even bought any shorts etc for us and. I'm away this weekend for a soccer tournament and I only have next week left....I think I am cutting it a little close. The problem with me packing is that the boys really don't know when we are going so i'm trying to keep it a surprise and so i don't want to start laying out any luggage etc so they won't be tipped off....Just more work for me!

I usually start 2 month or so in advance. Just gathering the small things up. But now that we camp in Disney, most everything is already in the camper. Just need to pack clothes.

You are definately normal. I start packing about a month or more before we go. We go in October and if the kids didn't need to wear shorts all summer I would already have them packed! DH thinks I get a little out of hand but if I do it early I'm less likely to forget something. Then there are my obsessive lists.

No because first you have to pack to see what you still need to buy.

Then you have to pack all the new stuff to see if it fits in the bags.

Then you have to take 1/2 of it out because it won't fit.

Then you realize you forgot stuff so you have to begin all over again.

Nope - I think starting to pack now makes perfect sense.

I'll be out during the next few weeks purchasing shorts and such for our trip in OCTOBER. Stores in my area start stocking fall and winter clothes in July so I need to stock up before the jeans and sweats come out. Case in point - my parents went to Jamaica this January (trip was planned since August - most stores were starting to clear out their summerwear at that point) and she needed to get shorts. She waited until the last minute, had to go to a sports store and pay $25 PER PAIR of shorts - and they were gone for ten days (Mom refuses to do laundry on vacation)! My father was not happy when he saw that credit card statement!

I've learned my lesson for our trip - start shopping NOW!!! We have a big Rubbermaid box in the back of our van that is specifically for Disney stuff - if I find a good deal on anything, I'll get it and throw it in the box before I even leave the parking lot. We're driving down, so thankfully I won't have to try and squeeze everything into suitcases...

And yes, my hubby thinks I'm crazy as well...

Since I'm not sure yet what clothes I'll be wearing there and since we will need our summer clothes to go I can't pack clothes yet but I have already started buying travel sized things and putting them in a carry on. DH thinks I'm crazy too...I don't care! The way I look at it, it's inevitable that I'm going to forget something so this way I can be as prepared as I possibly can be and maybe starting this soon will help me not forget the really important stuff! I don't think it's too early, I think it's all part of the excitement of the trip!

OMG this is so true! I also prefer to pack early. There's always so much last minute stuff to do before vacation anyway, why not cut down on at least some of it.

OMG you are dead on, I think I do this every trip we go on. I want to pact today for our trip in Oct.

Our trip isn't until August 11th and I will start packing July 11th If you're not normal....neither am I

I bought special clothes just this vacation, so I wont worry about needing them before hand.

ALSO I LOVE the idea someone on this board gave me.....and that's to make sure to pack suitcases with a mix of all our things...that way if luggage gets lost, at leaast everyone will have something
