DH says he'd rather carry toddler than deal w stroller. Let him?

My DH does this to me all the time when we are going to the mall, zoo, etc. and he doesn't want to be bothered with the stroller. It always backfires on me because my 3 year old ends up crying that she wants me to carry her rather than DH. So I end up doing at least 50% of the carrying. Also, will your 5 or 6 year old want to be carried once they realize their younger sibling is being carried everywhere -- I know that my 5 year old would, LOL.

We are 40 days out from our week long trip with our 2, 5 and 6 year old children. We rented a City Mini double for the week but DH is saying he only wants to use it on our long days (MK and EP). He thinks it will be super annoying and not worth it on our shorter days at HS and AK. We are planning to be there 9-2 or so. Our two year old is super small and DH is fit, should I agree to no stroller or is that a mistake?

We have both been to all parks so we do know how big they actually are.

I would bring the stroller because even if he carries the little one, someone (namely YOU) will end up having to carry the diaper bag or back pack that you are inevitably going to need to have in the park with you. And you may very well end up in a situation where the 5 year old is going to be done with walking, then what? With a 2 year old, I would NOT go without the stroller.

My husband didn't want to deal with a stroller for our trip last year, until we spent a day at the Fair the month before. By the end of the afternoon, he was sold. My advice is to find a festival or something similar for a family outing, for a reality check before your trip.

This is what I was thinking. Either that, or have the whole family take a two hour walk around the neighborhood. He has to carry the baby and the diaper bag, and you use a stroller with the 5yo. You can tell the kids you're practicing for Disney, and spend the half hour or so it will take your husband to wake up talking about what you all want to do, see, eat, etc.

Definitely do a practice day. If you have outlets near you that works great. It accumulates bags and if you walk enough it simulates a small park. Animal Kingdom is not a small park. Cheapy little umbrella strollers are an excellent compromise over a city mini. Most are about as big as a gulf umbrella folded up and cost about 19 dollars. They are great for the airport too.

We took my nephew to us for an entire day like 9-9. We put him in a carrier on my back. I am not super fit but it wasnt bad at all. He enjoyed it too because he was able to see everything.

I'd let him. He's an adult. And, he's right. Sometimes strollers are a PITA even if they are carrying the kid and the stuff. For my part, I'd not bring a separate diaper bag, I'd just carry the diapers and wipes in my regular park bag. Of course, that's what I would have done anyhow. ;)

OH! I see a PP mentioned it. We had a backpack carrier for my little two dds and it was really great. Can you get a hold of one of those? Would your kiddo ride in it? Mine loved it, but my husband is a big dude and they got to see EVERYTHING.

I'm a HUGE believer in strollers
Therefore, there is no way that I would go to WDW w/o one (or anywhere else all day with large crowds)
They are a place to make sure your child is safe, somewhere they can easily take a nap, somewhere they can entertain themselves with a toy or snack, somewhere you can put your diaper bag, somewhere they can stay out of the sun, somewhere they can keep their blanket/stuffed animal or whatever and I can go on and on and on and on.
When my kids were little I had to remind myself - it's not about what's best for me, it's about what's best for them :-)

If he wants to let him. If he changes his mind then you can rent one on property.

You could always bring the stroller to the park and leave it in a stroller parking area at an attraction and grab it when you need it. Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

This is what I would do. And, chances are, your 5 & 6 year olds will want to sit in the stroller at some point anyway (if they are anything like my almost-7 year old).

Your DH will be fine for a day or so. Then he may then complain about a bad back/foot/ankle and not want to do much beyond the resort. This will backfire.

I did not want to bring a stroller for two reasons, the first being that my two year old doesn't love stroller for long amounts of time and second, crowds with strollers is so annoying. We went to AK and I'm glad we didn't bring a stroller for our 2 year old. I think it depends more on child though. My son has energy for days, won't nap in the stroller, and can run laps around me. But if your kid is the opposite I would bring it.

Is there any way you could also have a single stroller available? Maybe bring a good single from home with you and rent the double? I can understand his reluctance to mess with a big double stroller on the buses. (And I actually own and love a City Mini double, and will be taking it on our next trip, but I'll have a 3 year old and an infant, which is a very different situation.) Most 2 year olds (and their parents) are going to want a stroller available, though. It's hard to carry someone that long, and a little one has to have their hands held up over their heads to hold hands with an adult, not to mention that walking quickly is a struggle for their little legs.

Is it horrible for me to say that the stroller is for me as well as my child?? I know I can do the resort delivery, but most of the time, my daughters like to have their stuff animals, lights, water spray/fan with them. I used the stroller for my storage and to take my baby around. I also took my Ergo, in cases when my older one want a break. This year, my baby finally grew out of Ergo at 4. I'm still thinking to bring a double or a sit & stand instead of a CityMini.
