DH is being made redundant this Thursday after 24 years with the Royal Mail, he is actually fine about it and has a new job to start on Oct 1st. at Heathrow airport. But the nerves are setting in for me I am the one that worries about and deals with all the finances and I am worried that we are going to dip into the lump sum too much in the interim time, he is trying to get a temp. job so that this is not the case but have sent off numerous applications and heard no more. So please can we have some pixie dust and prayers that something comes along to tide us over!

Here's hoping for the very best for you both.

October will be here before you know it!

Sending lots of pixie dust yourway ::yes::
Hope everything works out, I am sure it will :)

Hiya, sorry to hear about your situation. Sending lots of hugs and of course pixie dust - not that you'll need it, I'm sure things will work out fine for you both.

Thank you so much for all you kind wishes, I suppose that I am a born worrier, and worry if I have nothing to worry about, I am sure that you are all right and everything will work out OK.

Good luck to you both - it must have been a huge shock to him after working for them for so long. I hope something comes along to tide you over, but try to be positive and make the most of some time off :)

 Know what you're going through and all I can offer is let your DH enjoy his "retirement" for now. I got made redundant two years ago after 16 years in a senior position in Public Relations with a large bank. I was fully prepared for it (most of my marketing colleagues had been made redundant two years before me), I even chose my own redundancy date and was able to have summer off with my DD for the first time ever:D I was so worried about not finding something else, but I'm one of those people for whom redundancy gave me the opportunity to sit back and decide what was important for me . . . that was easy, my family.

I'm now a part-time school secretary, my "career" is on hold for a few years and I love every minute of it. Of course the financial side was a bit of a shock, but we had a cracking trip to Florida and then St Lucia on my hard-earned redundancy, new car and more treats. Savings were bumped up considerably and now I have a happy work/life balance.

I am a born worrier - worry for the world, me. My DH has been made redundant four times in the last 10 years, each time it's been for the better because his positions have just gotten even better. He is an account manager in retail (a very hit and miss industry), so we're never too sure what's around the corner.

If you want to find work, it'll find you is my motto.

Just let him enjoy some time off, get used to the change because that's a long time working for the same company, even after 16 years I'd become institutionalised for **** bank:eek: Now I just check their share prices and snicker when I see them being slated in the papers, just feeling glad it's not me any more having to defend them:D

Good luck to your family, relax and enjoy your DH getting tea ready for you;)
