I took my DH to the orthopedic Dr. yesterday to have his cast changed and new x-rays taken. The Dr. is very pleased with his progress, put a new cast on and.......told us that it's another 8 weeks that DH will have to be off that foot completely!! That's 4 weeks longer than the original estimate. :(
We go back on Dec. 5th to have the cast changed again, so we'll know more then. Maybe DH's Christmas present will be being allowed to start putting some weight on the foot.

Wow!!:( Did the doctor give any indication of why the extra weeks with the cast being on??

It's because of the type of injury. If it was just the broken bones, it would heal much quicker, but many ligaments and tendons were literally ripped from the bone and it takes approx. 12 weeks for them to re-attach and heal. DH's foot was basically crushed, so there's much to heal in there.
The Dr. said it would take an entire year to make a full recovery, if a full recovery is possible.

I am so sorry he has to have the cast on so much longer. When it comes to the body healing, I think it's all a guess. I have a friend whose son had spinal surgery and had a cast from his chest to his knees (he's 3). He was supposed to have the cast on till January. They were at church last Wednesday and the cast was off. He healed much quicker than originally planned. So, one never knows.

I hope your DH continues to heal and can have the cast off sooner than this last estimate.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad the doc is being extra careful. :)

Thanks for that update. I am sorry that he will be in a cast longer than anticipated, but better be safe than sorry! I hope he does heal up quickly!
