DH has been applying for a new job at many places all over the country. He has not been happy at work for a couple of years. The job he had for a decade was eliminated and they offered him a lower position at a significant paycut. Since he is in a specialized field there are basically no jobs in our state. He took the lower position to keep his insurance and such until he could find another job. We decided which states we would be willing to relocate to and he has been applying when something opens up. He has had 3 interviews in the last 6 mo. with one job offer that was too low to consider. Last Monday a job in his field, with a pretty decent starting pay, popped up on the internet so he applied on Wednesday. They called him Friday (only 2 days later!) they want him to do a phone interview on Wednesday. I thought that was pretty fast. My head is spinning with the what-ifs. If he got the job I would have to stay behind with my son and sell our house and the thought of that is scary. We would also have to find a place down there to live. :crazy2: I did some research and found out the cost of living down there is slightly less than where I live so that is a good thing. I also keep telling myself that I would live a stones throw from Mickey:yay: Funny but I think my DH is more excited about that prospect than I am and I am the Disney Freak in the family. The thought of moving so far away from our families is sad but exciting. I lost my dad last Christmas at a young age and I think it has made me re-evaluate our lives. I have always played it safe and I now realized life can be short and sometimes you have to take a chance and throw caution to wind. Just looking for some good vibes for the possible adventure ahead.

Best of luck on the job search. When figuring out cost of living, make sure you take into account annual passes to the parks for everyone in the family. Plus all the extra dinners and souvenirs you'll be buying. Though I'd think after awhile you won't be spending that much extra. Im sure that there are a lot of people that wouldn't mind moving to The World.

Found out the office he would work from is just down the road from Seaworld. So now I just need to figure out what areas to research to live in. I want good schools so that is a top priority. We have done some exploring on our trip to the World last year and I am kind of partial to Dr. Phillps or Windermere. It would be a relatively good commute for DH and they are listed as having good schools. It would also be close to all the parks and shopping. Now I just wait until after Wed to see what happens.

Best of luck with your decision. My husband was offered a new position with the company that he has been working for many years and he decided not to accept the position. It's a good thing for us that he didn't accept since
the plant closed down the following year and he would have been without a job. He is still with the same company all these years later and looking forward to retirement in about 5 years. All things happen for a reason and it sounds like your a young couple and if the offer is a good one and the company is extablished, I would through caution to the wind and give it a try.:woohoo: Whatever you decide, Best of luck with your decision.

DH got a transfer from Maine to Florida and we moved here in April leaving behind our 2 sons and a grandson. All in all we dont regret it. Yesterday we skipped up to Disney and rented the sea racers, wit our AP discount it was a nice little date day with breakfast at the Contempt Cafe :)

Best of luck to you and your family!

2 years ago, dw, dd, and me uprooted and moved 900+ miles away from family. It certainly is an exciting adventure there has been good and bad but I can honestly say this has been something that has changed our family for the better. Being all alone in a new city really strengthens the bond in your family more than you can imagine.

Sounds like a wonderful date day.

I am hoping for the same for us when the time comes. I am trying to look at it as an adventure. It would be great to be a bit selfish and have my DH and DS to myself. DH is always being asked to help one family member or another with something and DS is growing so fast it won't be long before he has a life of his own. I think the bonding would be a great thing.

My DH was under employed (like many) and applying all over the place too...
We had a son starting at his dream college 45 minutes from us, so we were so pleased when DH was offered a great local government position 10 minutes from home!:cool1:

The week after he started, he was offered a position in a publishing company in Orlando :faint:
at almost twice the money :faint: :faint:
which we turned down
but we are really happy to be where we are for now. ::yes::
We know once DS graduates he'll be off into the world and we won't see him much,
We are both fully employed for the first time in 23 years, thank God :worship:
and we have a growing pecan farm to try to keep up,
the town depends on him and he is having a big impact locally,
and we honestly were not ready to leave all that behind. :cloud9:

But you are ready! :woohoo: :goodvibes
You GO girl!!! :jumping1:
I'll say a prayer and hope all your dreams come true! :thumbsup2

Just wanted to mention the blog therelocatedtourist.com it's about a family that moved from WI to Orlando, and seems to have a lot of helpful information.

The two friends of mine that live in Florida live in the two towns you mentioned... One has been there for at least 3 years (Windmere), the other just moved to Dr. P. Both seem to really like their neighborhood (schools, etc.). Just think - at least you'd be moving to a place that a lot of your friends/family would probably like to visit, instead of east Timbuktu... :) My sister lived in Germany for 2.5 years, and although it was difficult for her to get up the courage to leave our area behind, she had a blast while there.

Good luck to your hubby!

That was us this time last year! My hubby got the job and we moved down here after the holidays. We love it! If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them!

Sounds exciting! Good luck!!!

The older I get the more open I am to doing something similar as well. I am also close to my family but, as you said, life is short and sometimes you need to try new things. Life is an adventure - embrace it!

OP, i'm SO jealous! each time DH and i go to WDW, we talk about staying and finding jobs, but we never do it. what an awesome adventure! good luck and pixie dust to your DH! :wizard:

Just wanted to chime in, wish good luck and share a story. We have some very close friends who were in the same position as you, with the husband having to take a job far away because of the specialized nature of his work. To make matters worse, he had to start while his wife was pregnant with their first baby (she had to stay behind to finish out the year as a school teacher and take care of the house).

Well, the baby just turned 1 and they're finally all together, now. They ended up getting a rental company to rent the house out, but I think they're taking a hit on the mortgage (taking in less in rent than they pay for the mortgage), but at least it gives them some flexibility with waiting for the housing market to turn around a bit.

Anyway - I share the story so you know you're not the only one in the situation. It was tough for them for a while, but it's worked out. So keep one eye on the destination and I'm sure it'll work for you, too! Good luck! :)

We relocated twice in 2011. Once from Charleston (where I was born, raised, and intended to die) to Atlanta...and then Atlanta to Nashville 4 months later. It can be very stressful and I cried a lot when I found out we were being transferred a second time and further away, but it ended up being great b/c we strongly disliked Atlanta, and love Nashville. After just about a year here it is getting easier and the homesickness is lessening, but we still haven't made any friends. Its hard b/c we were friends and did cookouts with tons of neighbors all the time in Charleston.
We didn't sell our house in Charleston, it is rented out til the market returns. We just started building a house here and I think once we are in a permanent home instead of a rental we will feel more "plugged in" to the community and meet some friends.
Good luck! Def rent to learn the area before you commit with a purchase.

The waiting is the worst. We are hoping that the speed in which they called is a good sign. DH has all the qualifications for this job and then some. We have come to terms with the idea that we will have to move if DH gets another job since there is nothing here for him. DS is such a trooper. He is such an adaptable kid that he would go tomorrow if needed. He is in middle school and is not even worried about leaving his friends. He is a bit concerned about leaving his grandparents and two favorite aunts but has an Ipod and is prepared to Facetime with them.

I will definitely check this out. Since we are from Wi too, it will be interesting to hear their experiences.

Thanks for the offer. If he does get the job, I will definitely have lots of questions.
