My DH has worked as an assembler in a factory for 17 years. He was laid off last year for 4 months. He went back to work in Sept. 09 under a contract, more pay, no benefits.

So, yesterday they offer to hire him back full time at $2 less per hour and 2 weeks less of vacation. He'll be back making what he made in 2003. And he used to have 4 weeks vacation.

Would you take the full time work or stay under the contract? He really won't gain back any other benefits, since I'm carrying the health insurance now. He will get short term disability that he has to pay for.

We're leaning toward the full time at less pay. They're hiring people off the street at $4 less than what they're offering him. I think they're going to hire a bunch of people full time and get rid of all the contracted employees. But lots of them are staying on the contract.

It's just so depressing and humiliating for him. I know how I'd feel if it was me. And there just aren't any jobs around here that pay any better. But, he's been looking for a different job.

My company isn't doing much better and I could see something like that happening where I work too. It just seems like they keep taking more and more away, so that you can barely make it. I'm seriously thinking of getting a part-time job, just so we can do something fun for once, like take a vacation!

Any advice for my DH? What would you do? :confused3 Thanks!:)

I'd take the full-time position and maybe start looking for something different. Maybe go back to school? And who knows, things may change --they always do.

I would also choose the full time position over the contract. At the same time I would continue to look for anything else.
If something happens to your position, would he be able to pick up the insurance?

No, about a year and a half ago they cut their health insurance, that's why he and my DD switched to mine, which is very expensive. That's another thing I need to check into again, because I'm sure the premium will go up again this year! :sad2:

I agree with you, go with the full time because if/when they hire enough employees the contract people won't get any hours at all.
