DH has a Broken Ankle - WWYD ?

i tore my ligaments 1 week before we left for our september 03 akl trip. well i had crutches & was miserable with discomfort. we called disney & rescheduled our trip to november 03. they were great about it, very understanding, did the same thing with southwest & no problems. we rescheduled because i knew i wouldnt be able to enjoy our trip & my fiance wanted us to be able to enjoy all our favorites & not be sore.

so november came along my ligaments were healed & i could walk freely without crutches, although we took breaks & i was able to enjoy our wdw trip, i also got a massage which helped too ;)

do what is best for your dh & family.

I cannot imagine going to WDW with an 8month old and my DH with a broken ankle. Even in 2 wks, his ankle is going to a bit painful, particularly if he is trasferring to rides all day. You will be exhausted yourself from dealing with this. I know some people would disagree, but I think I would wait and plan it for a later date when DH is closer to 100%. I believe you will all have a much better time.

I broke my tib/fib 10 days before my trip over last summer. I had hardware put in so I got out of the hospital a week before I left. I would have cancelled had I not had the cruise all planned. It really was a pain. Cast + hot summer = not too much fun. The humidity didn't help too much either. I would check with the airlines and see what you can get for later in the year - in about 6 months time your dh should be fine and well enough to do the parks so that you can have some help with the stroller and the baby.

Either way if your husband is casted - pay the $20 and get the cast cover from the pharmacy. This will allow you to cover the cast and take a shower without duct tape and garbage bags.

DMRick - What do you do if your wheelchair goes dead ? Do you just have to push it over to an outlet or what ?!

You send someone to the nearest CM and they call for help. First time we waited and learned that wasn't smart..it took forever. Next time we gave directions (we were in AK) near the train, so I used my crutches to go over (at that time they told me I couldn't bring the electric cart over anyway..I saw one there since then, so I guess they can now). Boy was that stupid..it's a long walk on crutches from the train to the building). Next day we got a wheelchair instead.
It's not usual for either the electric scooters (ecvs) or power wheelchairs (which you can't rent) to go dead. Most have a battery life to go 10-15 miles between charges - this may be somewhat less if you are close to the weight limit or are going up and down a lot of hills. Of course, occasionally there is a defective scooter, but if it happened a lot, more people would be posting about it.
Before you leave where ever you rented the scooter from, make sure you know how to put it in the freewheel mode so that it can be pushed. Also, if you rent from off-site, you can plug it in during restaurant stops (ask CMs where to find an outlet). That's more to keep it topped off than if it's totally in need of a charge; you can't just plug it in for 15 minutes and be ready to go for 10 more miles though.
If you are renting from off-site and have a cell phone with you, most of the scooters have the 800 numberr to contact right on them and people who have needed to use it have generally found good response (the scooter people bring a new scooter). For the Disney scooters, push the scooter out of the path of traffic and then contact a CM.

If it was just you and your hubby, I'd just get a wheelchair and go but with an 8mo and a stroller I'd probably recommend postponing the trip... sounds like a MAJOR hassle.
