Ok, so we went to the post office to mail a letter on our way to the store. Just as he was letting the letter go we both notice at the same time that there isn't a postage stamp. Also.... He did not put a return address on.... :thumbsup2 :woohoo: :rolleyes1 Sooooo.... What happens? That was going to our car insurance. Are they going to get it, or do we send in another payment... arghhhhh!

Send another check. I've done this and it took 4 weeks to get it back from the post office.

I'm sorry, I had to laugh at your reaction smilies. :teeth: :teeth: I don't know the answer to your question, but maybe you can call the post office first thing in the morning and tell them what happened, maybe they will hold it for you. Is there a toll free number that you can call right now to leave a message for the post office where you dropped off your mail? I don't know if that's possible, but it's worth a try. Good luck!

How would they know where to return it to if there is no return address?

I would send another payment and put a stop payment on the one you "mailed".

Won't the P.O. deliver with postage due? :confused3

I had to laugh too!!!

The letter has the address on it to be sent to the insurance company... but not the return address so the post office could return it stating no postage.

Why put a stop payment on the check? Any ideas what happens to the letters? I would hate to have a $30 fee if I don't need to.

I got that part, my question was directed at the poster that said it took 4 weeks for a letter to be returned to her.

Just call the post office first thing in the morning and ask. You've got nothing to lose.

Just in case. I suppose you could call the post office and find out what happens to the letter. Maybe you could retrieve it or maybe they could tell you that it will definitely be destroyed.

I would call the insurance co. and let them know. The "letter" should get to them w/ postage due. If they are told ahead of time, maybe they will accept it and pay the postage. I am sure they would rather have your payment than quibble over $0.39. Anyway, they should let you know if they will accept it or not.

I don't think you will get much help from the post office at this time. It probably went out tonight. And the postal employees have so much mail to handle, I doubt they will even look for it.

They should actually try to deliver it as a postage due letter. If the company refuses to pay the postage, it will be sent to the nearest Dead Letter Office that services that area.
I would contact my insurance company real quick though and let them know, and see what they offer as advice.:)

If you noted the time of pick-up, you can meet the mail carrier there and explain what happened and maybe he can help you.

It will eventually come back to the sender because the post office will get open it and send it to the address on the check. However this process will take a very long time. I have done this a few times. You would think I would learn, huh???? :confused3 :rolleyes1

We get mail like that sometimes at my work and they always come in with postage due. Post office cannot open mail because there is no postage on it.
