Last night I let DH buy a Playstation 2 since he has been wanting one forever and was driving me crazy. Almost $400 for the system, 3 games, a memory card and an extra controller. He stayed up playing late last night and when he woke up this morning he thought he would access the service menus in the TV to adjust the picture. He doesn't know anything about these menus and just started changing settings. Well after spending a few hours he has succeeded in completely messing up the TV where it is not watchable.

This would be bad enough if it was not for the fact that just about 2 months ago he tried the same thing and it took him several hours to even get the TV to turn off without pulling the plug. He finally managed to make it at least watchable again and he promised not to mess with the service manuals again. I guess he took that promise seriously....

So now DH has to take our TV into to a service shop to get it reset at the cost of $45. He just left and now it is starting to storm pretty bad outside. :( I am really frustrated with him and I don't understand why he can't leave things alone that he does not know how to use properly.

Ugh!

Because he's a man. :teeth:

Sorry, Becka, hope you get it fixed and he doesn't play with toys he doesn't understand any more. ;)

I'll go along with the "Because he's a man" theroy. My DH, thankfully knows a lot about electronics, but nothing about fixing a dishwasher. Yesterday, I found a small leak coming from under our dishwasher. DH pulls it out and starts fiddling with the hoses. Well one of them pops out of its socket and sprays water all over the kitchen floor and into my wine rack. Basically he flooded half of the kitchen before he could get the water turned off. I can't tell you how many times I said "do you want to call Sears for service?" and he of course said no. Go figure! So I do feel for ya.

There is a great country song out right now called "the Truth About Men" ..... it so fits my DH it's pittiful. Here are some of the lyrics:
That's the truth about men
Yeah that's the truth about us
We like to hunt and golf and drive around lost
Scratch and spit and a whole lotta other disgusting stuff
It don't matter what line we give you when we come crawling in
We ain't wrong, we ain't sorry, and its probably gonna happen again

It is a great song! One part of the song talks about jumping up and down when they see a new tool at the Home Depot.

I laugh everytime that I hear it. It is so fitting for a ton of men out there too.

Wow that stinks. I gotta be honest here, I don't care how competent or accomplished you think you are with electronics, if you mess with the service menu settings on a tv you should either know what you are doing or figure out what the reset procedure is. I used instal/ltune sound systems in nightclubs and have installed over 10 home theaters (more recently) for friends and family, and I won't go near the service menus on TV's...most of the time it is completely unnecessary. Especially if it was just to hook up a PS2.

I also don't think the the it's just men comment is called for (my DW would probably agree with you all, but I don't).

Hense the birth of Tim, The ToolMan Taylor. ;)

I sware more women watched that show, because they knew what Jill was going thru.

The problem is you need a big screen tv. Any tv that one person can pick up and put in a truck is just too small. If you had a much larger tv, chances are the giant images moving across the screen would suffice, and video games would not be necessary(although they'd still be pretty darned cool). Another benefit of having a big screen is that the service people have to come to your home for repairs, no more bothersome trips to the service center. Offer your DH a big screen HDTV, and see if he doesn't agree:sunny:
