And it's very silly!

We are at a local-ish hotel (yay, free wifi!) for a mini-break, and my "boys" have their little light saber keychains (seriously, so much cooler than the BIG light sabers, and a very reasonable, won't smack other people, size b/c it's a keychain, maybe 5" long). DH's is red (Darth) and DS's is blue (he had green but we lost it).

DH saw a few minutes of the Jedi thing in December, enough to remember the basics of what they have the kids do. So he's coaching DS...side block, other side block, duck! ....and so on.

DS is only 3, we'll likely be there for his 4th birthday, so with DS on the younger side for the training I guess DH wants him to be able to follow those directions so if he's chosen he won't be lost. Goofy goofy boys! :upsidedow

Aww! Adorable! I'm on the search for those keychains this next trip! I'm not a big Star Wars fan (except for the ride! ) But, the keychains sound fun!!

My husband intends to "train" our little boy too.
He is only 2 but was so devastated when he wasn't chosen for the Jedi Training Academy in WDW back in December! His little heart just broke. We explained to him that he was really just too little and that maybe when he is 4, he can go to the "cademy", as he says. So, about a half an hour later, Matthew announces that's he is now older -four years old and so now he can fight Darth Vader. He's sticking by his story too. He insists still that he is four and that he wants to go to the academy to fight Darth Vader. It's very cute. So, we figure that we'll teach him the routine so that the next time we go, we can let him try to get picked.

Not silly at all. What else do you expect DH to teach him??!! ;)

You Tube "Disneyland Jedi" if he needs further (or advanced) traning techniques. This is very important stuff, Molly. :)

Whadya mean "IF" he's chosen. You mean "when" (remember...Jedi outfit AND sign. :thumbsup2 )....& darn tootin' DH wants him ready!! ;)

Sounds like a perfectly normal father / son activity to me! That & digging holes & scratching. :hippie:

:)

Also teach DS about the ways of Darth Maul. Darth Maul twirls a double light saber :scared1: and he's much more intimidating than Darth Vader :darth:.

May the Force be with you! (And use a sign! :) )

We wouldn't even go "in" to the area where kids might get picked. Stayed completely outside to watch what we saw of it (you should have seen his eyes with Maul) to really try to help him see that he probably wouldn't be chosen that young.

On the other hand, he DID get chosen to dance with Sleeping Beauty, when we went to the PFF on our last day (his request, I promise!). :)

I love the keychain light sabers. When meeting Jack Sparrow again in December he had great fun showing Jack the saber. Just as much fun as he had showing Jack his light-up pirate sword in September. :upsidedow

Jedi Academy was the reason we went in June for our first trip.
We were so READY for this!
We finally get there and we are hoppin up and down screaming for them to pick our 8 yr old Zak. We were towards the back. A CM came up to us and said for
Zak to come with him. He went through the training. Then Darth Vaders came out and the scary music was playing. They chose Zak to go up and battle Darth Vader and he just stood there shaking his head NO. He was horrified.

The next year he said he wasnt going to chicken out. I told him he didnt have to do it. He wanted to. I video taped it. Ill try and post it on my site.
It was pretty cool! He was the first picked to battle Darth Vader and he did it this time!

Its pretty intimidating!

My son (turned 8 last month) just did this yesterday. We saber fight at home quite a bit. He got to fight Darth Maul and did well. He was very proud. The kid behind us didn't get chosen and threw an absolute fit. His parents called the CM over and tried to get him in after they were done choosing. I felt both sorry for the child and a little peeved at the parents. They thought their child should have gotten picked (as if the other kids weren't also disappointed), but didn't bother to show up early to get a good spot or put any effort into it. I prepared my son for not getting picked ahead of time. Thankfully, he still got in.
