DF had his braces removed when he was in the 8th grade (he's 21 now) and he has a lower bonded retainer permanently cemented behind his bottom 6 molars. It doesn't look like its placed right (IHO) cause it tends to look bent. However, as a dental assistant, I have heard that after treatment that some patients have to revist the ortho for a once over to make sure everything is still kosher. But, given his past experiences, DF absolutely dispises his ortho and refuses to set foot in the place. Not sure what to do my hands are tied in the situation.

Meredith :tinker:

Can't he go to a different ortho for the check up? He should call around and see what a visit would cost.

I know this is OT, but I had to ask. What is the "F" in DF for? I thought it was father until you said he was only 21.

And while we're at it, what does IHO stand for?

I believe DF stands for Dear Fiance and IHO stands for In His Opinion

sorry about that should have explained my lingo :)

Anywho, anyone else have any thoughts?

I have the same thing, and I hate it. I remember when the dental assistants tried to put it on me, I closed my mouth and said NO I DON'T WANT THAT and they did it anyway, saying that they could take it right out if the dentist said it was ok - well I'm 29, and its still in. I asked my regular dentist about it, and they said they could, but never did..... I've since stopped going to them (not because of that, but because they stole $900 from me. They say they "accidently overcharged me" but how do you accidently over charge someone $900, and then never tell them for 8 months?!??) and have an appt with a new dentist next month. Hopefully they will be able to get it out...

He says it doesn't bother him and his hygienist said its good that its still there cause his tongue and lip muscles are so strong to the point that if it weren't there, his teeth would move out of place all over again :sad2: .
