why are all developer points only used at ssr, surely if 100,000 points are sold at akv or blt and 100,000 developer points given to use at ssr this will over subscribe the number of points at ssr, i use 100,000 as a round figure as i am sure at akv and blt there will be many times that amount sold, so if point for point were matched in developer points to use at only ssr this resort would have to many points for one year, who is keeping tabs on this?

I think SSR is the largest resort at DVC...That could be it? Not sure but someone will know here.:)

It seems like the last to sell out as well...A few times we planned last minute and SSR/OKW were available.

I am almost sure that is it is the largest and that is why all developer points go there

Also a marketing ploy to get members to try SSR and see what a great resort it is. I've already read a few threads where members stated they loved their stay at SSR on DPs and would have never tried the resort otherwise...

We are looking forward to our stay at SSR on DPs.:thumbsup2

While we are VERY happy with our AKV purchase as we loved the AKL, SSR would have been another resort along with OKW that we would have looked at.

The Developer Points are not necessarily from SSR - they can be from any of the DVC resorts (including AKV and BLT) where DVD owns inventory. In this case, they have made the decision to limit use to SSR - possibly because that resort often still has inventory at 7 months.

yes i know that the dp are not from ssr. my point was all these dp points being used only at ssr surely must push the total points for a year at ssr over the liimit?

possibly.

if DVC is giving out developer pts from BWV, VWL, AKV, OKW, etc. to use at SSR, then yes, that would "force" some SSR owners to try other resorts if SSR is booked up with those pts from other DVCs. (i.e. it frees up the rooms those pts at BWV, VWL, AKV, OKW, etc. represent.)

it only really becomes an issue IMO if you have a lot of SSR owners with no other option than HH or VB...i haven't heard anything to suggest that will be a problem.

(edited to add: since they are only valid at 7 months, it would be no different than owners at BCV booking BCV and other DVC owners booking BCV at 7 months to capacity - and since some BCV owners would still have points outstanding, that would push BCV "over the limit" by your definition. same thing. that's just part of how DVC works. if SSR owners want to stay at SSR, they still have booking priority at 11 months - if not rooms at other resorts (backed by pts owned by DVC) should open up at 7 months to allow more options.)

The only "limit" is the total number of points owned at the resort. These points, regardless of their resort of origin, can only be used within 7 months (just like any points from non-SSR owners) and therefore do not count in any point totals. Since they can only be used within 7 months, SSR owners still have had opportunity to reserve at their home resort. The Developer Points can also be used for the cruise, at DL resorts and for World Passport exchanges so not all are used at SSR.

The system is also self-limiting since everything is based on availability. SSR owners still have a 4 month advantage over anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the DPs go unused too - because of availability issues.

Regardless, the use of Developer Points has no effect on the total number of points being used at SSR - that is entirely based on the point charts and availability when someone tries to use their points.

thanks for the explanation i get it now:thumbsup2

I may be way off base, but this was my first thought, too. I know people are going to have their favorites, but I think many people are pleasantly surprised with SSR.

When we joined, we didn't get DPs, but decided that we were going to stay at all of the DVCs. I'm so very glad we did. While I love SSR, I can't tell you how much we would have missed otherwise. It's made our membership mean even more to us!

SSR is underused and under rented. There are a number of units still owned by Disney.

Essentially they built an OKW style resort with high BWV pricing and tiny BWV room size. They added a restaurant only as an afterthought. And it's bigger than any other resort.

The rooms are nice and the grounds are pretty. If you're happy with paying a premium for a lousy location and tiny-but-nice rooms, it's a perfect choice.

I just added on 100 pts at BLT today and got the 100 SSR points. Before I decided, I had the guide check availability at SSR to make sure I would be able to use them for my August trip. I only needed a studio and he called me back to tell me they had over 200 rooms available for the time I wanted to go (August 5th - August 12th). Not sure if those were all studios, but it appears that availability at that resort is plentiful.

Depends on the time you're looking for. I called middle of last week looking to book a couple nights in March and there was no availability. I subsequently got one night but nothing for the second.

The MFs and the resale prices are pretty good though especially considering the extra 12 years (at the END). The 11 month window is worthless however. I called for availability for SIS for July 4th week this morning. Guess which resort had lots of availability??

I feel a little sorry for those that paid $90+ for SSR.

We got developer points when we purchased AKV, and we used them last month at SSR. Based on what I'd read here, and my own opinion about the location, I would have avoided SSR if we hadn't been "forced" to use our developer points there.

My mom and her DF loved it. They didn't go to the parks at all, but they played golf almost every day. They loved going over the Downtown Disney... they went every day. They were both very pleasantly surprised by SSR, and would stay there again voluntarily. (Little do they know that I'm never booking us there again if I can get BWV, BCV, AKV, VWL, or BLT instead... because I really do care about proximity to parks and DS cares about animals.)

Funnily enough the location is exactly what sold SSR to us. Having DTD so close really appealed, since we don't have kids and enjoy going for a few drinks. There's nothing like having a few beers on the House of Blues or Raglan Road patio, grabbing some WPE food on the way home and then stroll back to SSR.

And no, we don't think it's far to walk...

I agree totally with this comment - we bought at SSR because of its location - love being able to walk to DTD! But I am glad we only paid $79 a point since the resales are so cheap now!
