Developer points at DL?

We are brand new DVC members who received the developer points incentive. We were told these points were good at either SSR or Disneyland and must be used by October?. Having gotten to visit WDW twice in 2008, were thinking of using them to make a first-ever trip to Disneyland.

However, now I am confused because on some website I read that because DVC suites are being added to the Grand Californian, one will no longer be able to book the regular rooms at the GC using points. GC was our first choice after a quick look, but again, we've never been to DL before.

Can we use our developer points to book at the Grand Californian?

And my follow-up questions are, am I going to be able to get anything there in early June at this point, and is early June a crowded time at DL?

I've never booked DVC before and I've never been to DL before, so this complete newbie appreciates your advice!

If you are going to use your developer points before they expire in October 2009 then you should have no problem using them at Grand Californian because the DVC will not be open until after that. As of now, based on the 2009 points charts, you can book at GC with DVC points like any other Disneyland hotel.

It is speculation (and likely) that you won't be able stay at Grand Californian using points once DVC opens because that is how it works at WDW.

Enjoy planning a trip to Walt's original park!

We booked a stay at GC using developer points about a week and a half ago. We are going in April, but I don't think that you should have a problem booking.

We stayed at the Disneyland hotel on developer points since the Grand Californian was not available using points. I called and there were plenty of rooms available, just not for DVC use. We enjoyed visiting but will probably stick to WDW. Have fun.
