OK, In Feb. we will need a hotel near the airport, i found these on expedia/orbits/... For the people who live or travel a lot... Which one would you , or better yet... would you let your mom stay at!!!
(they are all in romulus) Super 8, Best western International hotel, Northwest Inn, Howard Johnson, Detroit Days inn metropolitan Airport, Metro inn of Comfort inn metro airport!! or would it be easier to ask what ones would you not want to stay in???? Sorry there are a lot of them. Thank you in advance! :flower: :flower: :flower:

Have you considered the Westin which is right at the airport (Northwest's McNamara Terminal)? I can't comment on any of the hotels you've mentioned, but if I were going to stay near Metro Airport, I would stay at the Westin.

Another vote for the Westin. When we fly out Saturday or Sunday mornings, we often stay there the night before and take advantage of their one-week valet parking rate.

It's more than the hotels you've mentioned, but that's where I'd put *my* mom. (After all, when you're talking about Mom, money is no object! ;))

I checked out the Westin, we are flying out of the Smith terminal and on a Wed. morning! the price of a room is $250! i love my mom.... but not that much??!!??!! too pricy for our budget! Thanks! :flower: :flower:

Last year we stayed at a fairly new hotel with a park & fly package--the Hilton Garden Inn. I believe it was roughly $130 (parking included for 10 nights + 2 nights paid @ $5 p/night). That's a fairly good deal when you figure in what parking is going to cost. The hotel is very nice--great complimentary cookies :goodvibes and was quiet. While it's off the beaten path (.5 of a mile off Merriman), it's a scant 10 min ride to the airport.

We have also stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott and it was fairly nice as well. There is a manager's (or was the last time we stayed) reception each evening and the pool area is cozy and clean. There is a Bob Evans very near by as well. As I recall, the rate was also a park & fly (8 nights) and ran us about the same as the Hilton Garden, $130 w/less days free parking.

The former Fairfield n/k/a Ramada, I believe--could be wrong on that one--was typical--lower priced (many years ago and again a P&F pkg running around $80). The pool is an outdoor pool at this hotel and the rooms were really small.

On our return trip last year we stayed at the Clarion ($71 p/night) and it was in deplorable condition. The carpets were so worn the wrinkles looked like elephant skin and I nearly fell walking. The lobby area was nice, but that was the only thing about this place that was nice! We should have spent the extra $30 and stayed at the Hilton where we began our trip.

Frankly, that's the only hotel I would never recommend. I wrote to HQ about this hotel and all we received in response was--thanks, we'll pass it on.

Many years ago we stayed at the Super 8 and it was tolerable. I don't think I'd stay again though.

There are a number of places around the aiport that are barely tolerable. I'd look into the park & fly packages which, when viewed as a whole, are a pretty good deal.

Good luck--I've got to locate our overnight for June as well. LaQuinta had some nice rates last year, but the Hilton was a pretty sweet location, clean, comfortable, and not quite as noisy as others in which we've stayed. I'll be considering my options soon! :)

Tess... How do you find out who has a park and fly rate? I looked at some different hotlels and they did not say anything about park and fly rate!! Should I call them? Thank you for the sugestions! I will check out some of the hotels that you posted Thanks :flower: :flower:

Yes, just give the hotels a call--I have found that at all we have stayed in the past do have park & fly rates. The Hilton Garden Inn allows you to park in its lot OR you have the option of parking at one of the large lots too. We were originally going to park at a commercial site, but after seeing the security at HGI, we opted to simply park there. Our vehicle was fine when we returned as were all the others parked at the hotel. We've never had an issue at the commercial lots either. :sunny:

We usually fly out of Grand Rapids, but couldn't pass on the great rates out of Detroit. Being that MI weather is so unpredictable in January, we decided on the Park & Fly package at Hilton Garden Inn based on your recommendation. I just booked it today. Thanks for the review. :flower:
