Booked an early morning flight out of Detroit for Sept. We'll need to book a hotel and find somewhere to park during our trip. Anyone have any good hotel reviews and would you recommend a park and fly or should I book a hotel room and plan to park at the airport?

We used the comfort inn park and fly package, I dont recommend the hotel.....We went to our room, someone was in it already......The parking lot was full and had to park under the hotel sign in the grass.....Rooms were run down and dirty..IMO
Just do a google search for park-n-fly Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Should be around $100, they usually charge extra for parking over 7 days.

We have the same thing with our upcoming August trip, 8:00am flight. We are 100 miles from DTW. I want to drive it, DW wants to stay the night. Who do you think will win that one!!!

We usually just drive it and use US Park, $9.50 day...if you have AAA you can get it for around $7. They also have a coupon on their site for 1 day free.
Good Luck!!

We totally gave up on flying out of Metro - basically ever. We now fly out of Bishop in Flint and it is a breeze (even if it means a connecting flight in Detroit - DD23 did that this week for a flight to Indianapolis, and it was way easier than even getting parking at the airport), and there is at least one nonstop per day each way, Flint to Orlando via AirTran. Depending on where you are in the state, a lot of people are also happy with the airport in Lansing and the one in Grand Rapids. All of these are easier to get to than Metro, easier to park at, and reasonable hotels close by. Just a thought, and hope it is of some help.

I can recommend the parking place....Qwik Park. Use them all the time, and they are FANTASTIC! They follow you right to your car, help you load your luggage, and don't dawdle getting you to your flight.

They are connected with La Quinta. I haven't stayed there, but I notice a huge amount of pilots and FAs stay there.

Check out http://www.qwikpark.com/

We use quik park all the time. They have a AAA discount. No hotel recommendation, but like Jodifla said the La Quinta is right in front of Quik Park and we are thinking of trying it this December. Just want it to be clean.

A word of warning with the stay and park packages that the hotels in the area offer. You park at your own risk and there is vandalism. We were warned several years ago when we wanted to stay and park that the area surrounding the airport is not the best and their is vandalism and theft in the hotel parking lots. We came out of our hotel (maybe 10 years ago) to a young man who had driven in from Kalamazoo and used stay and park. He was waiting for the police (and his dad) because all of his windows had been broken out of his van. That made up our mind for us, we droven right over to Quik Park.

yes....the qwik park lot is fenced, lighted, and folks are driving around in it 24 hours, so it's definitely safter than just any hotel parking lot.

The Westin in the DTW airport is really nice. The convenience of it can't be beat, also the heavenly beds and the showers and the Starbucks in-room coffee....

The La Quinta DTW is (to put nicely) sub-par. So is the Best Western. IMO.

The newer DTW metro airport is nice. It's easy to make a shorter connection through it with the tram running its entire length overhead. Lots of places to eat and shop. Waaaaay better than the old terminal!

Good luck!

How long does it take to get from Qwik Park to the terminal? Thanks for the advice!

The bus will get you there in five minutes....longest I've waited is 10 minutes, since they spent another five loading up passengers. They are very cognizant of getting you to the terminal quickly.

If you go to the online site and sign up, you can print out a one day free coupon. Also, like a PP said, they discount for AAA.
