Hi there,
I'm considering a little jaunt to Vero Beach, but I'm lost as to what airport to fly into.

What do you usually do when you stay there?

Do you think this would be a relaxing place to stay (even if a person is alone) away from the resorts near Disney?

We just got our DVC points and need to use some up so we don't have so many next year (what we want to do, not need, I guess.) and I was hoping to stay for a few days by myself at VB.

Do you have any tips for travelling alone?

I know this isn't terribly DVC related, but I don't know which other board would be appropriate, since most people staying at Disney resorts aren't going to VB.

Has anybody stayed in the garden view studio? Is it a nice room layout? Any tips?

Thanks!
Sherri :)

The closest airport is Melbourne but you may or may not find good flights. The other options are West Palm Beach and our old friend MCO. Roughly the same distance/drive (WPB is slightly closer).

If you enjoy lazing by the pool and/or walking along the beach, Vero would be a wonderful place to go and recharge even on your own. If you're interested, there are also quite a few places to shop in the area. Basically, describe your ideal getaway and we'll see if it would fit into Vero.

I think I would spring for the oceanview Inn room -- it is just wonderful sitting out on those balconies looking at the ocean -- like being on a cruise ship.

The resort is small and I think you would feel quite safe traveling alone. Of course, use common sense -- don't wander around in strange parking lots at night by yourself, don't casually tell people you are traveling alone, always bolt the door, always know who is at the door before opening (call the front desk to verify if necessary)...just general travel sense.

Sherri-

We've been to VB 3 times now and just love it to death. Actually, it's also our first home resort.

It's less than a 2 hour drive from Orlando International (MCO), and an easy drive at that - pretty much interstate and well-maintained roads all the way. When you make your ressies, you'll get a confirmation mailed to you and at the bottom it will have directions from MCO.

When you come in from MCO you'll pass a nice Publix grocery store on the right a mile or two before you turn onto the road that takes you over the causeway over the Waterway. It's a good place to stock up.

We've stayed in both a 1 bedroom studio 'garden view' (which actually had an ocean view from the balcony) as well as a beach cottage. The Inn Rooms are in the main building, while the studios, 1 bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms are in stand-alone structures. If you are concerned about personal safety, the Inn Rooms may be a better choice as any one coming into the them has to walk into the main lobby. The ocean view inn rooms are the only rooms (aside from the beach cottages) that guarentee an ocean view.

If you have any other questions, please PM me or email me. Welcome home!

Actually, it is totally DVC related. Search this board and you will find tons of info on Vero and Hilton Head. We all love those resorts as much as our Disney ones!

We fly into Orlando and drive to Vero, which is about 1 1/2 hours from the airport. We usually combine a Vero trip with a Disney trip so that works for us.

Thank you for your replies! I'm really going to look into getting the ocean view room instead. Personal safety isn't a concern of mine. It's just not in my nature.

I am really excited about planning this little getaway! I'm going to do a search on Vero Beach now and see what else I come up with. I confuse this board with the other board I'm on all the time (parenting related) where the search function is down.

I think that's a great idea to stop at the Publix store, too. I told my DH I'd eat PB sandwiches all the time I'm there if he didn't mind me going  !!

I think it will be a great time, just to soak up some sun. My ideal vacation is laying on the beach or by the pool and relaxing, and taking down the 20 or so books (ok, maybe not 20, LOL) I have stashed away that I've been wanting to read. :)

I think VB would be a great solo trip. I can only dream of being alone for a few days with a view of the ocean and a pool to lounge by. My dream would also include a massage while I was there. I've never had a massage there, but hope to some day. Also, I'd skip the peanut butter sandwich one day and go to the Green Cabin Room and sit on the deck and enjoy lunch while watching the ocean.
Oh, the possibilities seem endless. Have a great time!

It is a wonderful place to relax. We went about 4 years ago and were lucky enough to get one of the few 1 bedrooms with an Ocean View. I told DH to just leave me there while he and the boys went on to WDW. ;)

The balcony was wonderful and I was perfectly content to just sit there with a book for a couple of days and just zone out.

I think it would be the perfect place for you to travel alone...unless you wanted to take me. I promise I would bring books and be very, very quite...

You would hardly know I was there....

Massages are good there - 1 hr. for $65 if I recall. And the Green Cabin Room is an awesome place to watch the waves and take it all in. I think that Wednesday is DVC Member Day at The Green Cabin Room and 'fu-fu' drinks are on special.

Then Vero is the place!!! You should have a great time.

Vero is the only place I can read a book, cover to cover with very little interruption! You'll have a great time. And, if you do feel a little lonely, you can always strike up a converstion with whoever is sitting near you at the pool. We've met a lot of nice people there.

My son and I are going to WDW next week. At the end of the trip, we are unwinding there. I can't wait.

Thanks again!

I'm taking detailed notes from that thread. :) I see you live near God's country...

Go bucks!!

Sherri :)
