We had an 11:30 lunch PS at Mythos (in Islands of Adventure). Background:
My Mom (50s) likes practically everything but is the best at knowing whats good and what isnt. Favorites are Italian and seafood.
My dad (50s) extremely picky! Favorites are Barbecue, Italian and seafood.
Myself (30) - always told I was a picky eater but compared to my dad, Im not! Favorites are Asian food and seafood.
My daughter (5-1/2) doesnt like traditional kids foods like mac and cheese, etc. Has developed a gourmet taste already! Favorites are pasta, crab legs, salmon and ribs.
We are all major dessert lovers.
Our rating system is yucky, so-so, good, very good, and excellent.
If service isnt noted, it was good but not outstanding or bad.
I ordered the Tempura Shrimp Sushi. Sometimes just the shrimp is tempura and its rolled in rice and the seaweed wrapper. But other times, as in this time, the shrimp, rice, and seaweed in its entirety is dipped in tempura batter and then fried. It was absolutely delicious and even non-sushi lovers would love it (as did both my parents). The frying makes the edges crispy and easy to chew (sometimes the uncooked seaweed is hard to bite off and chewy). I rated it excellent.
My mom ordered a hamburger. She rarely eats red meat but was in the mood. She rated it good.
My dad ordered the Lemongrass Pork with Shrimp Pad Thai. Now, my dad does NOT like Asian food. I warned him that lemongrass is a common Thai ingredient and I didnt think he would like the Pad Thai. (He hates ginger!) He insisted he would like it and was mildly offended that I wasnt impressed by his willingness to try new things! Well, the pork turned out to be covered in a very thick sauce that he didnt like. My mom tried it and deemed it yucky. The Pad Thai, however, was rated good by both.
My daughter only ordered a dessert because I let her have green eggs and ham for lunch in Seuss Landing. It was called Dino Eggs lime jello/vanilla pudding frozen and molded into eggs sitting on a nest of shredded phyllo dough. It looked beautiful and I even took a picture of it! It was on a cool clear rectangular glass plate and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Looks can be deceiving, however, because it tasted only so-so. It was a strange consistency (not like ice cream) and was too cold on my daughters teeth (she has no problems eating ice cream). It was so cute, however, Im still glad we ordered it!
For dessert, we split the Warm Chocolate Banana Gooey Cake (heard from these boards). It lived up to our expectations and was one of my favorite desserts of the entire trip (and we had many). We all agreed it was excellent. Another bonus it was served with peanut butter ice cream! Yum!
We will definitely eat at Mythos again on our next trip to IOA.
