In Korkis Korner -
In 1990, Hench was officially named a Disney Legend by the Company. Earlier this year, he was nominated for an Academy Award® on a Disney short film he started work on in 1946! Destino, based on the artwork of Salvador Dali, is an imaginative animated feature begun and abandoned by Walt Disney over 50 years ago as a collaboration with the noted surrealist painter. The Walt Disney Company recently decided to complete the long-shelved project under John's supervision.

I thought Roy Disney did this project without Walt Disney Company funding? I'm confused on that last sentence. Does someone know?

Aren't rumors great? My guess is the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, and "Roy finishing his beloved Uncle Walt's work" was good press.

If I had to guess, I would say that TWDC must have given Roy persmission to finish the project, and assigned someone to oversee the project. Has anyone seen the film? Did TWDC distribute it through one of their channels?

Interesting. I hope someone knows more.

Despite anything, wasn't Roy one that was nominated for the Oscar? Good press, sure. Not sure about it being a rumor, though. I would like to find out more.
From the sounds of that sentence someone would think it was John's work and the Walt Disney Company's idea.

Wasn't John Hench supportive of Roy's agenda before he passed away?

I think there may be an error. Here's what is listed on the Oscar web site:

DESTINO
Dominique Monfery and Roy Edward Disney

Destino is a short subject from The Walt Disney Company. The executive producer was Roy E. Disney. The film was made before Walt's nephew left the company.

The Motion Picture Academy nominates individuals, not studios or distributors, for Oscars.

For the full credits, go to http://www.savedisney.com/news/se/destino.asp and scroll down.

So far, Destino has had a limited release, primarily at film festivals and in a few major cities. Walt Disney Pictures is expected to include Destino as a short subject with an uncoming movie release and to put it onto a DVD release. But I don't know what the actual plans are.

Now, to bring this thread back on topic... Is anyone else bothered by Disney's use of Vacation Magic -- which we pay for through our dues -- to promote Disney movies and other Disney products that have nothing to do with DVC?

Hmmm... maybe we should charge them an advertising fee...;)

I know!!! We could call it "Magical Advertising", and charge even more!!!!!!!! :p

Think Universal would want to buy some ad space too???

No, it does not bother me. It is called synergy & it is about time Disney does more synergy with its products.
