DEST EE 5K PTR - 19days Apr/May-(I'm BaaaaaCK!)

Hi Kim! Signing on to follow your TR AND your training for the EE 5K! HOW COOL! My DD and I totally want to do one of the Disney 5Ks, but the timing hasn't been right (I teach high school and she's in college). I have a love/hate relationship with running and always get frustrated that I'm not getting faster/more endurance faster! hahaha! But I keep at it. DD plays college basketball, so she'd be just fine - I'd be clutching my heart, gasping for breath! LOL! But I'm still dreaming of doing it some day and I'm so impressed and inspired that your family is! Yay!!!!! :cool1: We're tentatively going to the world April 23-28 - just DH and I - our spring break is that week which is really late for us and means lighter crowds (hopefully!).

Your trip looks FABULOUS and packed with lots of fun stuff! You must be so excited!!! OH, and I hear you about 6 months of snow - I'm from Montreal, but live in Vermont now, so that is not unusual for us either. This HAS been a mild winter, though, hasn't it? Crazy! Anyway, thank for sharing all of your training progress and keep up the great work!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more! :yay:

Hi! I saw your post on the EE thread so I popped over to read your trip details. It all sounds good! We rented a home in Windsor Hills for the Marathon last January (2011) and really enjoyed it. There's a huge benefit in having the kitchen, a couch, and your own private pool. :thumbsup2 I think you guys will really enjoy it.

My DD9 and I are doing the EE race too, it'll be her first real Disney event and she's thrilled! I think she's most looking forward to a "real" medal instead of the rubber ones they give for the Kids' races.

Wanted to say you've been doing a good job at training too. Keeping it going can be a really hard thing to do, I know! But now that May is looming ever so much closer, that really helps in the motivation department. Keep running whenever you can find the time. Every little run helps - even if it's just 20 minutes. I'm a run/walker myself and usually maintain around a 12 minute mile. I've finished 5 Half's and 1 Full at Disney, so a 12min/mile is an excellent goal - if I can do it, you can do it!

Try and find something good on the TV and that helps with the treadmill! Being from Wisconsin, I hate the cold, snow, and ice, so I do aLOT of running on the treadmill. It really stinks sometimes, but it's better than falling on the ice! Keep up your training, it gets easier the more you do it!

I'm so glad you popped over! and I hope one day you and your dd will be able to make it work out. We are so excited for this opportunity - even if it's the only 5K run I ever do :) And so you know I have always HATED running too!!! I couldn't beleive people did that to themselves. I tried a few times and was disgusted with it and gave up. so if your anything like me you really need something that motivates you to keep you going. For me it was this run - I'm pretty sure if I hadn't comited to doing it I would be done running by now. lol
Do you know your park plans yet? or do you decide when you get there? we will be in MK on the 27th and AK on the 28th. and I'm pretty sure you'll have pretty decent crowds those days!! so it's a GREAT time to go - that's LATE for a spring break but definitely to your benefit this time.

It has definitely been a crazy winter snow and cold wise but I'm soaking it up all I can :thumbsup2 Mind you here I sit looking out the window and blizzard conditions so the snow is finally coming!! Oh well - at least we havn't been in a deepfreeze for the past month or two like normal! And even if spring is later in coming we can handle that too b/c we have our trip to sunny Florida to get us through!!! Like a little bonus summer time :)

Thanks SO much for popping over!!! It's so nice to have people reading and commenting so I don't feel like I'm talking to myself. lol
I'm glad to hear another good rating for WH. It looks just GREAT!! and SSOOO close to the world how could we go wrong - especially at $70/night and eating groceries??:confused3 We are definitely looking forward to our stay there.

that's awesome that you and your dd are doing the race. i wonder if we'll be in the same heat?? We registered within the first few days so we are hoping to be in the first few heats to take off. We are looking forward to the medals too!!! It's our first race so that's going to be SO awesome to walk away with those. DD does Cross Country with school but it's only ribbons with that. I've never been athletic so I am SO stoked to have a medal for the 1st time in my life :banana:

I was SO encouraged to hear you've done halfs and even a full by maintaining a 12 min mile!!! YAY!! I feel much better knowing this b/c I know i can do it then. I find I do much better mixing up run/walk than I'm doing maintaining a run so IF I finish the 5k plan I will be changing it up a bit after - or maybe I'll even stop the program now to change things up. I now know I CAN jog non stop for 25 min but I prefer going a bit faster and having walk breaks in there. I just feel I get better distance that way b/c my recover time is quite short now. I guess we'll see how I proceed but i honestly have no desire to go non stop. I'm ok with fast walk portions.

MINI UPDATE:

I did one less run than I would have liked to this week but what does one do?:confused3 i won't even try to make excuses for myself but I'll try to get my 3rd run back up next week. OR I may just take next week off. I'm not sure - does anyone have an opinion?? I was reading that a person should take a weeks break every 3 - 4 months so my thoughts were that maybe this should be that week????
I started mid Nov (I did have some down time in Dec but I was sick so don't think I'll count that as a break) so that means I've been running almost 3 months. But I don't want to wait much longer to rest b/c I'm thinking I could time it out so my next rest is the week before the run since we'll be on holidays, in theme parks and find it hard to to find time to run the week before. OORRRR Is the week before a run a BAD time to take the rest?? I really don't know so I'm going to do a bit more research on it before i decide this week.

Anyway, enough babbling, here is my accountability for the last week of Jan...

Jan 23 - c25k wk6 - 4K in 35.35 min

Jan 25 - c25k wk7 - 4K in 34.30 min ( I JOGGED 25 MIN NON STOP TODAY!:cheer2: I'm impressed!

Jan 28 - jogged a mile or 1.6K in 12.15 min. (this is where I crashed this week - i didn't feel like running much so I forced myself to at least get in a mile)

Total K for this week - 9.6K

I'm very excited to total up my Jan kilometers this week and see where I'm at. I'll post my full Jan accountability once the month ends later this week.

Thanks again for following along and thanks so much for the encouraging words. It really helps keep me motivated when I know people are seeing how I'm doing and that I'm keeping up with it. It's too easy to just give excuses to dd or dh b/c there is ALWAYS a reason that can be used.:upsidedow lol

You are doing such a great job keeping up!
I did the couch to 5K and ended on week 7 when I got sick.
While I am not RUNNING, perse, I am doing quite a brisk walk.
I did my first 5K at EPCOT this January and was able to finish in 58 minutes - which is a good 12 minutes than what I had done best on the treadmill!!

I am signed up to do the Everest Challenge solo in May - looking forward to it!
Hopefully will see the Coconuts there!

Your itenerary looks great! I'm very envious that you get to do Disney, Busch Gardens, Seaworld, AND Island of Adventure in one trip! Talk about a great vacation!!

I've been dying to try out Manta at Seaworld; it looks like so much fun.

I wish I could pick which part of your trip looks best, but I like all the days. :rotfl:

I'm not really sure when/if is the best time to rest when it comes to running. But if your body is telling you to slow it down and ease up for a week or so, then go ahead and listen to it. It's better to take a few steps back and get some rest then to burn out on the whole thing.
But...a straight 25 minute run? That's fantastic!!!:thumbsup2 You are, without a doubt, going to be so prepared for the Expedition Everest Challenge.

That would be great if we ran into each other :) Are you doing a pretrip for this time around? I noticed you have a trip report and i will have to check that out. Let me know if you do start a pt so i can follow along!!

I tried and stopped c25k a few times as well - once b/c i got a cold that lingered for a month and then it was starting to get cold out and the 2nd time i stopped b/c it was getting cold out. I've never been a fan of the treadmill but this time b/c i'm motivated to do this run i've been dealing with the treadmill quite well :cool2:

Thanks for stopping by!!! Hope you'll keep reading as i appreciate all the encouragement i can get!!!

I know hey!! it's so awesome that we are doing everything!! but i'm a little worried about the pace i will have to keep up. I'm a work at home mom so my lifestyle is pretty mellow and to be in so many parks and have so many things to do is really going to wear me out:eek: but with the jogging and helping my dd do flyers 3 times a week it's forcing me to be out and about more so i'm hoping this will help me get used to a busier pace.

Manta is SSssoooooooooooo awesome! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 We really really hoped that they would have a soft opening while we were there last and we were SOOOO thrilled when we were there the first day they did soft opening!! We rode it so many times and it's a different feel than other coasters so it became one of our tops REAL quick!! You need to try it the next chance you get.

thanks for the pointers on the running. I think this may end up being my rest week. I slipped on the ice while delivering flyers the other day and have a HUGE goose egg on my knee and am stiff in my groin/hip area so i think this is the perfect time for a break :)

No plans to do a pretrip report. I am still working on my TR from the Marathon Weekend in January.....where does all my time go!?

Hi Kim!!! I just found your pre trip here - quite by accident! I recognised your name from our TGM days!
You ARE a running machine...!!! I'm impressed. I am so not a runner - happy to walk, but run - not for me, and especially after I did my ACL last year. Had the op to fix it, but still in "recovery"!
Your trip sounds good - and it is so close now! As I said you will love Windsor Hills! October will be my 3rd time there. I love the kitchen and the space and the convenience.
The Universal hotel looks gorgeous. You will love that I'm sure. Front of line looks like it will be well worth it.
OK - I will wait your updates. You and Cali are doing very well to be in form for May. Keep up the good work!

I know, there are not enough hours in the day or at least not enough energy to use it all efficiently. LOL I popped over briefly to check out your tr but will take more time hopefully today :)

Heather!!! I'm SO glad you found me :) I didn't even think to let you know bout my tr on DIS! I'm so used to you being on TGM. lol Thanks for reading! Do you remember what year it was when we met up for the fireworks?? I can't remember. lol. Are you on TGM still?? Apparently some updates are coming starting mid Feb!!! How exciting is that??? lol

Time for my JANUARY ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

This has definitely been a good month for me  I am SO proud of myself I cannot beleive it. I always HATED running and NEVER EVER thought I'd EVER do it!! hahaha.

Jan 1 - 3K - 28 min

Jan 3 - 3.5K - 31 min

Jan 5 - 4K - 35.25 min

Jan 8 - 4K - 34.58 min

Jan 10 - 3.66K - 33 min

Jan 11 - 1.6K(1Mile) - 12.13 min

Jan 13 - 3.29K - 31 min

Jan 15 - 4.41K - 36.47 min

Jan 17 - 1.6K(1 Mile) - 12.50 min

Jan 18 - 4K - 34.45 min

Jan 23 - 4K - 35.35 min (wooops - that was a long break in between)

Jan 25 - 4K - 34.30 min

Jan 28 - 1.6K (1 Mile) 12.15 min

Jan 30 - 1.6K (1 Mile) 13 min

I see my motivation withering end of month but I'm sort of bored with the c25K program now :( Since I stopped the intervals and started the straight runs i lost interest. I am not concerned with running non stop - I'm prefectly fine to giver er and then catch my breath and then continue. I find it more interesting than just going non stop so the program lost me once I hit the 25 min non stop mark. At least I know I can go 25 min non stop but now I'm just biding my time and taking a slower week. I will jump back in next week and either do my own thing for a bit or try out a new program i found which is based on 20's, 10's, 5's. If anyone is interested in hearing about it I will go ahead and post some info on it otherwise I won't bother and will just continue to post my K's and minutes.

My total for January was 44.26K's. wow!!!:scared1: Did I REALLY RUN 44 kilometers this month?????????????? :woohoo:

You are doing a great job, you should be proud of yourself! :thumbsup2 What's especially nice about working hard in the cold and snowy months is that when it starts to warm up and you can wear shorts again, you're already in shape!! Then, of course, the warm weather just beckons you outdoors which makes it sooo much easier to get out there and run/walk. :) You're doing great, keep it up!!

Hey Kim!! It was 2007 when we met up!! How about that - 4 1/2 years ago!!! (Almost!)
I did joing TGM for my next trip - I did get good info last time, so maybe it will still be OK this time!! Time will tell, I guess.
You are doing so well with your running. I'm very impressed! :woohoo:

THANK YOU!!! I will take ALL the encouragement I can get :) I can't WAIT til it's nice and I can run outside. DH does it ocassionally for a 1miler but I'm clumsy outside in the snow and ice - I've already wiped out 4 times this winter just out delivering flyers so how on earth would i do with jogging??:confused3 I don't even dare try. lol

Really??? That long ago?! wow! So then Cali was 9 then. lol She's going to be 14 this trip!!!
I do think it'll be worth it for TGM again. I can't wait for the new info out this month.

A SURPRISE REVEALED!!!

Well, I SUCK at keeping surprises but at least that means i can type about it on here and not worry about DD coming across it! :goodvibes

We went to Hawaii last Jan and DD and I fell absolutely in love with riding the waves. We only did body boarding but it was so addicting that DD cannot get it off her mind. Then with the release of the movie Soul Surfer the obsession was just even more cemented in her head. So dh and I decided that since she's graduating from elementary school this spring that we would surprise her while in Florida with a SURF LESSON at TYPHOON LAGOON as a graduation gift!!

I did SOOO good keeping it a secret! Iv'e kept it since last Oct!!!! but this month I got so tired of her saying it was too bad the wedding wasn't at a beach that had good surf that I finally came out and told her. She did the fist pump and "YES"!!!! So at least I know she's happy with it but it would have been SO cool to surprise her that day. She would have thought we were NUTS making her get up so early. :rotfl2:

What a great gift to your DD! I laughed that you weren't able to keep it a secret, but sometimes it's better to let the cat our of the bag. Now she has an extra reason to be excited for your upcoming trip, and she talk about it with you guys. :thumbsup2

Aww, that's a lovely gift for your DD! She must be so excited! Nice job on the January kilometers logged! We're still unseasonably warm here in Vermont so it would be fabulous to have an early spring so I can get out and on the track BEFORE our trip in April! I'm just motivated by having to wear shorts and a bathing suit before summertime! Hahaha! :lmao:

You're doing well in your training! I can't ever seem to keep myself motivated and keep starting and stopping in my own running - keep ending up with little illnesses.

That is so cool that you're getting your daughter a surfing lesson at Typhoon Lagoon! Also very funny that you couldn't keep it a secret. My mom is the same way - but I can keep a surprise, maybe it's a mother/daughter thing. :rotfl:

ya, i'm no good with secrets but now we can anticipate it together!! plus it's less work b/c i don't have to work on a surprise gift basket. lol We can just plan to design a shirt together or something.

she is definitely excited. We bought a video camera at long last so we can capture it on video and she can relive it over and over. We are only near grungy little lakes so it'll be a LONG time before she has another opportunity to surf.
It's warm there too hey?? We just got out and went around the Lake yesterday in sweaters!! That's absolutely UNHEARD of for us!!! I can't wait to get outside for some running too but after my experience yesterday I've learned i won't be running outside for some time yet. the cold air is too much on my hyperactive airways (or mild athsma). and wearing a swimsuit is DEFINITELY great for motivation! lol.

I start and stop too. Not so much this time around but I just took a quiet week and am now regretting it b/c of stiff muscles.
My daughter isn't that good at secrets either. lol - she's just like me.

We finally got our countdown made
So since I had a bad week last week with running (i only ran 1K and it wasn't even all that fast) I am going to post our countdown instead bc that is EXCITING!!!!!

We went to Home Depot and grabbed as many as we could while not looking too obvious!! (Hard to do but i'm sure they know people do this right??) and then it took us almost a whole week to get it up b/c we were looking for number stickers but didn't have luck finding them in a good quantity and the right size so we just ended up using marker to put on the numbers. Then we had to print out some disney pics to colour and put up around it too. The CLIPS are for weeks so we can take a clip off each week til we get to 39 days then dd can start taking off a mickey head/day. She wanted a count down - she said your never too old for a count down to Disney :) :)

so anyway, here it is...
DSC_7875.jpg

We added a few minions too b/c we'll be heading to US/IOA.

I'm hoping this week is better for running. I tried running outside but it was AWEFUL!!! It was SO nice out (like record breaking nice) that dh and i wanted to run around the lake. I was SO disheartened that I stopped after the first K and I wasn't even able to do the first K non stop :( I always knew I had hyperactive airways but I guess I didn't realize it affected my being physically active b/c i've never really BEEN physically active much in my life. Well, now I know!! It affects me when i get colds AND a little bit with being active but LOTS with the cold air. My lungs felt like they were going to BURST and they were on FIRE!!!! and even though i am finally over my cough I coughed for an hour after my lungs finally stopped burning.

From this experience I learned that I am a treadmill and FAIR weather runner only and jI probably will never win anything for speed (the winning part is absolutely fine by me though b/c I'm just happy to be doing this much physical activity for the first time in my life).

Anyway, that's it for now. I promise to have more than 1K logged in my next week and hoping to start posting some of my daily plans soon too.
