Dessert party or tea party which one?

I think I want to do one or the other. If any one has any info I would appreciate it. I know how much a dessert party will run but what about a tea party?

When I called about a pre-wedding tea for 50 and I was told it would be around $40 per person.
I am thinking about a dessert party too but I'm not going through DFTW for it so I don't think I could wear my dress so I am looking at other options.
