I always remember a line where she was telling off a woman who said people deserved to die of AIDS: "If God was handing out Sexually Transmitted Diseases as punishment for our sin, you would be at the free clinic ALL THE TIME."
I never thought she was 70. She has had a LOT of consemtic surgery done, so she appears so much more youthful. I don't unsderstand why nobody is posting the cause of her death. Isn't that strange?
Periodically, when someone goes too far, I will say to DH, "I swear, if they don't stop right now, I will go all Julia Sugarbaker on their ***." I am usually speaking of DH's brother. He is the most deserving of Julia Sugarbaker rants.
I found it odd that her husband referred to her death as a family tragedy and of course it is always a tragsdy when someone you love passes away, but you don't usually refer to it as such.
I hope it's not what I'm thinking, but she was a wonderful woman and with a great sense of humor.
RIP Dixie, you are missed.

This is terribly sad. I cannot imagine how Hal Holbrook is feeling right now-- she was very young. I think the family is keeping the nature of her death private.
As others have posted, I was a big fan of Designing Women. Julia was my favorite character. She had such class, and as others have stated, she was a true Southern Belle. She will be missed!
such sad news.........
