I think I would like a nice pair of designer prescription sunglasses this year but since I am nowhere near as careful as I should be with such things I don't think full price is reasonable and am wondering if a discount place for this sort of thing even exists. Does anyone have any ideas? I know Marshall's and such are good for regular ones but the prescription thing is another story.

What do you consider "designer" Target optical carries Coach, Ray Ban, etc. Most are fairly reasonable especially if you buy your clear glasses at the same time. In the past I have purchased my clear glasses with my insurance and then got the discount price on a pair of sunglasses--typically $99-$139 including frames and lenses. Now, my problem is that I really like Maui Jims.........so I just look at them longingly....

It's interesting because when I wear my contact and regular sunglasses I do tend to lose them or they get scratched up. I really do think a part of it is mental. I know they only cost me 7 bucks so I'm not as careful.

Now my glasses I don't tend to skimp on because I keep my glasses for a very long time as long as my prescription does not change.

Are you paying oop or will your insurance cover some of the cost?

I picked up a pair of Gucci sunglasses 5 years ago for 400 bucks !!!! ouch. lol, the cashier had to pry the debit card out of my hands when I tried to pay for them but I will tell you, I take really good care of them. they go immediately back in the case when I take them off and I'm super sensitive of where I put them when I get home.
Like I said, I've had them 5 years now and I absolutely love them. at my last exam I asked my optometrist if my prescription changed would it be difficult to put new lenses in the frames. she said not a problem.

I would hunt around, I'm not a big on line prescription eye glass purchaser only because I really can't get comfortable with ordering frames without trying them on.

I can't help with where to get them cheap I paid 270. for mine a few years ago, I even have bifocals in mine. It was the best thing I have ever done. I carry them in a hard case in my pocketbook, just switch out the glasses, this way they are protected when not being used and you always know where they are.

I got a pair of RX sunglasses & a pair w/ transition lenses from Sam's Club one pair is Juicy Couture the other are Oakley. They had a ton of name brand frames but I wanted two pair for less than $300. We used our flex spending to pay for them since the both had RX lenses. Sam's has a warranty with their glasses.

The thing you need to remember when looking at designer label glasses, most are actually made by the same company, they just licensed the brand from the designer. Luxottica owns a huge amount of the eyewear industry, and most people don't know it. Reuters states
Luxottica’s house brands include Ray-Ban, Oakley, Arnette, Persol, REVO, Vogue, Oliver Peoples, K&L, Luxottica, Mosley Tribes, Sferoflex and Eye Safety Systems (ESS). Its licensed designer brands include Anne Klein, Brooks Brothers, Bvlgari, Burberry, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, D&G, Donna Karan, DKNY, Fox, Miu Miu, Paul Smith, Polo Ralph Lauren, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Stella McCartney, Tiffany & Co, Tory Burch and Versace.
but they also own/operate Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical and Sunglass hut.
So unless you specifically need the name, there may be absolutely no difference other than price between two different pairs.

Can you put that string thing on them so they stay around your neck? When you remove them you can tuck them by eyeglass arm into your shirt as if string not on them.
