Designated Survivor

1). No offense but his wife was way too attractive for him. He came across as rather meek and not well put together (I.e that hoody he was wearing) and she came across as totally beautiful, smart, and confident. Just totally mismatched.

I think that is the whole premise of the show. A geeky, nerdy, way too meek (Beta) and not well put together guy, who never even had designs for the presidency, has instead, plans/goals that were even counter to the current administration and got him fired, but whose plans were coming from a good heart & conscience, by an act of fate and timing, has been thrust into the one position that he is currently least qualified for.

The premise of the show (I think) is following this man as he has to "grow a pair." Does he just follow along with whomever is more Alpha in the room, or has (previously) the bigger title or more experience in their fields than he had? And since his own goals went counter to the now deceased president, does he continue in that president's legacy, which is what the voters voted him into office for, or does he come forward with his own beliefs & goals, and grow his own voice and do it his way, even if it's obviously very different?

To me, that's where all the potential of the show is. We already saw him take a stance against the general who wanted to bomb every thing in sight immediately.

Also, if they had hired an actress, who is mousy and a Beta in her own right, she won't be "right" for him, once he finally comes into his own power. They cast a woman who is right for the person he needs to eventually become.

I liked it well enough too, but the first episode is the same plot as Executive Orders by Tom Clancy. I keep looking for Jack Ryan.
Didn't they separate Ryan's family in the book? and took Ryan to a secure location (not white house-going to have to reread now)

I am a Jack Bauer fan too! May have to binge watch also...

During 9/11, Bush was flown around for hours in Air Force One, kept mobile and his whereabouts constantly unknown, until they went to the secret bunker - wasn't it in Montana? Not so secret anymore
yea I thought they were going to rush him to AF1 not the WH!
BTW-love the screen name!!! ST:TNG fan??? Met Marina Sirtis once at a con.

As a Canadian watching I appreciate the fortitude, and stamina that a POTUS MUST have. :)

I wasn't really excited about the first episode. The second episode did even less for me. It all seems a little too black and white. I hope they surprise me with some better twists and turns.

MTE. I was hoping that it would improve, but the writing is poor and everything is just so predictable.

Yeah actually we're in the process of rewatching House on Netflix veerrrryyy slowly and we actually said the same thing about Kal Penn :flower1:
We are huge House fans. Right now, when watching Designated Survivor, we are calling Penn's character "Kutner." Because we can't remember his character's name.

But I don't know that we will be watching many more episodes. The prez is too wimpy and the general is way too ready to commit treason.

:rotfl2:on the Penn comment.

I hear ya on the president and general. I think we'll continue watching it for now but I get what you're saying almost like they were going for a cliche. It took me 6 episodes to really get into Code Black but I really enjoy it now. There are some shows that I'm instantly hooked and others that I'm slow to warm up on. I know my husband likes Designated Survivor slightly more than I do.

My husband also enjoys The Good Place more than I do. I know they were going for silly but sometimes it's just too silly with not enough enjoyable humor but we'll likely continue watching it at least for a while.

I like it.. I didn't watch 24.

Why do you think Kimble was "Googling" him at the end of ep. 2??

Ryan insisted on being taken to the White House so this fits in with that. The family however was taken to a military base and Ryan went there to sleep.

I like it, but he is know Jack Bauer, I like my Tv watching to have bad guys and good guys, and I want the good guys to kill the bad guys and like the great poet Billy Preston said "let the bad guy win every once in a while"

We just watched the second episode last night and I still like the show.

The second episode seemed a little slow to me but I'll still watch because I'm a Kiefer fan. I miss 24. Rumor is that he passed on reprising his role as Jack Bauer for Designated Survivor.

Ah, maybe that was the reason. But if that's the case, I think he made the wrong choice (at least that's what I think so far). Maybe it's because I've been rewatching 24 the past month or so and was deep into it when Designated Survivor debuted. There's just no comparison.

On the up side, I did notice last night that there is a trailer for 24:Leagcy on On Demand and it looks very promising. It premieres after the Super Bowl 2/5.

Yup...definitely no comparison between the two shows and I agree that he made the wrong choice. I'll give Legacy a shot but I won't be setting the bar too high.

Truth be told, I did think Kiefer was showing his age in the 9th season and I wondered if he could pull off a 10th. :duck: But I was sure willing to give it a try!
