New show starring Kiefer Sutherland as a cabinet member who becomes President after an attack on the Capitol. Thought it was very well done.

The only thing I didn't like was that the only military person represented was represented as a gungho rush to war at any cost general.

I've know hundreds if not thousands of military personnel, and not one of them would be rushing to war. To a man, they all wanted peace more than anything.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the show.

I have it recorded and we'll watch it this weekend. My DH and I need a new show to watch when he's home.

I enjoyed it, but still am not sure how it will be going forward. I was really looking forward to it but couldn't figure out why I didn't fall in love with it right away. Then I realized I'm not so much a Kiefer Sutherland fan as I am a Jack Bauer fan. And this new character (naturally) is hesitant and unsure of himself. I'm having a hard time getting used to that. I'm looking forward to next week though. It has promise.

The funny part is that I have been rewatching 24 the last month or so. I'm up to season 7 again where so much of the action was in the White House. Quite a contrast to Designated Survivor last night.

I was excited to watch this show, as I am a huge 24 fan. It was just OK to me. Did not really like Kiefer Sutherland's character, or really anyone else's. Will give it a couple more weeks to see if it gets better.

Maybe I was just expecting it to be more action packed like 24 :(

I have it recorded but we haven't watched it yet. Kiefer Sutherland had another show on a year or two ago. Can't remember the name. I came to the exact same conclusion as you while trying to watch that show. I am a huge Jack Bauer fan and not so much a KS fan. We will give this one a chance, but I have a feeling it just isn't going to be the Jack Bauer I'm looking for.

My husband loves 24, I do not. I tolerate it.
However, I love Kiefer Sutherland and the character of Jack Bauer.

Designated Survivor is not my type of show at all, but it is right up DH's alley, and I went in with an open mind.
I actually liked it! I like his character and his awkwardness, and his determination to face the situation head on even though he was scared. But I think I've seen too much House of Cards so I was waiting for them to reveal he and his wife were somehow responsible for what happened, and is really a bad guy, LOL!

I'm afraid it's going to become contrived with the same old same old plots as other shows like this, though.

I said this on another thread, I really liked it but kept hoping that Aaron from 24 would walk in & introduce himself as the head of his security detail.

I know, right? I watched Aaron save the president's daughter yesterday afternoon. Love that guy. :)

You should just do what I did and start watching 24 again. I wasn't sure it would be fun a second time through, but I've been pleasantly surprised. There are so many twists and turns that I really did forget a lot of them since I last watched a couple years ago.

On the up side for me, I never watched "24"." So I have no preconceived ideas about his character. He started as a clean slate.

I'll give it at least one more episode. See where it goes from there.

Liked it; never watched 24 partly due to the 'cult' like following in the office where I worked for 4 years. The day before and day of was filled with exaggerated enthusiasm and the day after every new show was a dissection for 45 minutes!

I'm wondering how the various sub-plots will play out!

I enjoyed the show but one thing really bothered me. So after the Capital building was bombed, they move him and his family to the White House and he immediately is taken to the secure room. But then a few minutes later, he is walking around outside of the building alone. If everyone else was killed and he is the only one left to be President, wouldn't they keep him in a more secure (secret) environment until they knew more about the bombing? How do they know the White House isn't the next target?

That's a really good point. There was that part too where they find a bomb and they decide to diffuse it and then discover it's a dud. I think usually when they find a bomb they use a robot to detonate it rather than sending humans over to deal with it. So little things.

I loved the gal who plays his wife from Californication, but I never watched 24. I will watch if nothing else is on.
