My DD 15 has a good friend who is going on a Make A Wish Wonder 4 day leaving this Sunday. They just found out they they have 2594 and 2596 (there are 5 in the family). These are on Dave's noisy list.

Should I tell the girl's mom? Should I encourage her to inquire for different rooms at the port? Now?

They just got their documents today because it goes through Make A Wish.

I want the cruise to be perfect, the family has been through so much!

Suggestions, please
Barb

Many people have reported that the rooms on Dave's list are not always noisy as indicated....Dave says "your mileage may vary"....so it is a tough call.

You don't want to upset the mom, and you don't want them to have a noisy cabin either.....not sure what to tell you....sorry.

Ok...this was on the Stateroom report....it is for the Wonder.

I probably would not mention it if I were you. Mom's got enough on her mind without having to worry if the room *could be* noisy or not. Chances are that the family will be having too much fun to notice anything else :)

How about buying them a white noise machine? I paid around $20 for one at Walmart. That would block out any noise from outside the room.

I wouldn't mention it because I think it is more important they have cabins which are adjoining cabins than that there might be some noise. (Chances are at this point there would not be 2 cabins next to one another, let alone, adjoining cabins left to move them to.) I would leave it at that but if you feel you must warn them about something, I like the suggestion of getting them a white noise machine and casual mention to them that you noticed that their cabins are below the restaurant galley.

I wouldn't mention it either. There is some kind of noise around most of the cabins. Our last cruise was in the Roy Suite and it sounded like an elephant track meet above us on deck 9 most of the time.

Thanks for kind words
I should have added that my daughter's friend is in remission at the moment (is so glad to have a little hair for the cruise) and is the youngest of three kids (the older sisters are a junior in hs and a college student) so I am pretty sure that adjoining rooms are not critical.

Do you think I should recommend they ask at the port? (I could downplay the noise but suggest that it might be worth asking)

I checked the disney site to see if there were cabins available but the first date showing is Aug 14

Isn't there another site to check for cabin availability?

Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming

(I will get the white noise machines if all else fails)

Most of those rooms were listed not by people who have stayed in them but by someone walking up and down the hall and looking at deck plans and arbitrarily deciding which might be noisy. Without complaints from people who have been in the rooms, I wouldn't give it a second thought. In this case I wouldn't ever mention it to the family. Noise on a cruise is the last thing they probably worry about.

Ah, if only the room report wasn't so poor - seems like the person who reported was in the bathroom noticing the shaking, not in the hallway...
I am so conflicted!

Do you think there WHOLE cruise would be ruined if they are in noisey cabins?? If not... dont say anything. They may not even be in the room long enough to hear anything and they may think all rooms are like that and think nothing of it... whereas if you say something, they will go into thinking it is noisey...

If that makes sense??

Well, it IS ship, so every cabin is going to be noisier than a hotel room.
Only noise I recall (other than loud brats in the halls at 6 am) was a very loud bang at 3 am between St. Thomas and Castaway Cay in very rough seas. I swear we hit a solid object. Kept me awake a few minutes waiting for an "abandon ship" announcment, but when it didn't come, I went right back to sleep. And we were on deck 7.

Those are the same rooms we are assigned for our May 2006 cruise. They are a good location on deck 2 but yes they are on the noisy list.

On our last cruise, my sister and her family were assigned 2 "noisy" connecting rooms and my brother and his girlfriend were assigned a "noisy" room. They knew nothing about these boards and I didn't mention the noise issue to them. They enjoyed their rooms. It wasn't until after the cruise that I told them about the "noisy rooms list". They said there was some noise in there cabins but they just thought it was normal cruise ship noises. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I wouldn't mention it, IMHO.

Barb,

These two rooms were actually recommended to me by a DCL rep this week!

I just called to get info so I'm ready when those 2007 rates come out, so it wasn't like she was trying to sell me on a couple rooms they had left on a certain sailing!

Also, remember that "noise" can have many definitions. I don't mind engine noise at all, which is like white noise to me, which is why I love the aft section. I can't stand hallway noise (i.e. lots of noisy people passing by), so I would be very unhappy in a high traffic area. With overhead noise (i.e. like the clubs), I can go either way. We were under Rockin' Bar D once and could clearly hear the bass, but we were so tired that we fell asleep promptly anyway.

I once panicked when I was given one of the rooms from Dave's noisy list. I didn't hear a thing. :confused3 You have to realize that many of those rooms were evaluated from the hallways.

I wouldn't say anything. I hope that they have a wonderful time. :flower:

I've been on 12 cruises on the Magic, and have stayed all over the ship. I've never had a problem with a room that was "noisy" per the list. I have had problems with rooms that were NOT on the noisy list, but were infested with noisy neighbors. I just haven't found the list to be accurate based on my stays.

I would not even suggest to this person that there might be a problem with the rooms. If there is an issue, they can go to guest services and will be relocated within the limits of what is available at that time. DCL always keeps some cabins open even when the ship is officially "full." If there is no problem, they haven't worried in advance.

I have nothing to say about the noisy room....but about the "wish"....I would make sure you have the parents go to GS and even at check in note that they ARE on a wish trip. I've heard of so many speical things they (DCL) will do for wish families.

My dd was granted a wish last year....and we went the WHOLE cruise without one special "wish" related action being taken...(Simpley because no-one knew we were on a wish trip...our wish coordinator forgot or didn't bother letting DCL know)... this of course could have been solved from the start if we would have went to GS and let them know right away that we were a wish family. Of course we still had a magical trip...but it really didn't feel like a "Special vacation" for our dd (the wish child)....

Now this families wish coordinator may be on the ball and already discussed everything with DCL...but it's always a good idea to double check....i sure wish we would have.

Oh...also I don't think it would hurt to tell the parents to "ask" about an upgrade at the port.....you don't have to mention anything about the "noisy room list"...but just suggest they mention or question what it would take for an upgrade.

Hi
What is a "wish" and how do you get one??
Thanks

They are talking about the cruise as a "wish" granted by the Make a Wish Foundation.

I have never really heard anyone on the DIS describe any special treatment just because the trip was a "wish" trip, although I have heard of individuals arranging special treatment for a particular cruiser.

I just booked and now i realize that I too am in the "noisy" section , in 2600.. not sure whether i want to go to the trouble of trying to change or not.....
