I booked a Sept vacation (our favorite time to go) however I wasn't able to get vacation time at work until Nov. I booked vacation for Nov and since I wasn't able to call to cancel (working) I send an email to Disney with my Sept and Nov confirmation asking them to cancel Sept and place $200 deposit onto the Nov. booking. I didn't think anything about following up...oops.

In Aug I received a notice that payment was due for Sept. or it would be canceled. My husband was home and called WDW and they said we lost our $200 and they won't transfer it to the Nov vacation.

I thought I was being nice by trying to deal with this via email so someone else could book the Sept since it was free dining too.

Do you guys think there is any chance that I will get the $200 transfered if I call back?

Slim to none and Slim is out of town.

Cancellation can only be done by the specified methods. Email isn't one of them. And failure to follow up isn't an excuse that Disney is likely to listen to. Can I ask why you didn't just move your dates to Nov. instead of making a new reservation?

That doesn't sound right. Call again.
I'm not sure email is the proper way to get things done with reservations. So call.

I was at work and just found out when I was able to take vacation and booked online-wanted to get free dining before there wasn't any options. I still had slim pickings. I wasn't able to call being I was at work (long distance), so I just emailed the info.

Total my fault for not following up, but $200 is $200. We are spending about $6000 between air, hotel and park passes. We have been working a lot of extra hours be to able to afford this trip.

I am pretty sure they don't transfer any deposits. They cancel the reservation, refund the $200 eventually and then make you make another reservation with another $200 deposit.

To the best of my knowledge, Disney does not handle those sorts of things through email. At least, I have NEVER heard of them doing so. Only directly through the website or on the phone. If I am correct, then you simply decided to do something the way you wanted instead of the way it is supposed to be done. That is 100% on you, not Disney.

This is how they have handled ours in the past as well.

This is the part I'm thinking doesn't sound right. If you just got the notice, why would the deposit be totally lost?

People have gotten deposits to use on other vacations before, so why would this one already be gone? Maybe they should think of another time a vacation could be taken, and just transfer it to that?

The problem may be that you have 2 different reservations, one for Sept, one for Nov. I don't think you can move deposits from one reservation to another, but you can modify existing reservations. Can you cancel the Nov one, and have them modify the Sept one to now be for Nov?

Because they received a notice payment was due meaning they were within the 45 day payment requirement. The penalty at 44 days is $200 if you cancel.

So it is right if that is the case.

Yes, this is true. Because you have two separate reservations, Disney is treating them as such. A company is not going to credit and then charge a credit card with only an email for liability reasons.

That said, I would try to call back. A few years ago my mom was going to WDW with my brother and his family. She had her own room, ticket and MVMCP ticket on her reservation. My brother cancelled the trip and "forgot" to mention it (don't ask...). Anyway, by the time she found out, she was paid in full and beyond 45 days. Disney let her cancel everything and even refunded the party ticket. So sometimes you just need to get lucky with the right CM.
