$200 is normal for a package, but it is more if you book Room-only (but I think they just take a 1 night room deposit, so unless you are in an awesome suite, something isn't right.)
Are you booking a package or room-only? I think the package deposit is $200 and room only is one night. However, I don't think there are many, if any, rooms that get up to $1200 per night!
First off are you sure this wasn't a mistake and it should say $120?
I believe that you are right now booking a "room only" thus it will be the cost of your room (for what i thought was it was for one night?), but maybe it is a % of the total cost for the room now? They haven't released the 2013 package rates yet, so you can't pay the $200 for your package. When they release the 2013 package rate in Sept (usually) you then call back (to make your reservation a package) and you will pay the difference (if there is one). (also if the price of the room increases when they release that you will pay the difference at that time) (At least this is what was the case a few years ago when we booked for the next year)
Rates for 2013 are not available yet, that might be the problem. I believe you can book room only but the rate is the highest for 2012. $200 is for packages, which I don't think you can book yet.
The issue is the package rates for 2013 aren't out yet. If you are booking for 2013, you are booking a room only reservation and the requirements are a deposit in the amount of 1 night's rate. And since 2013 rates aren't out, they charge you the highest rack rate available in 2012. This will the a holiday room rate which can be quite pricey depending on the resort and room type you are booking. Once the 2013 room and package rates are released, your rate will be adjusted, but I don't think they will make a refund on your deposit unless you call and ask.

Yes, because 2013 package rates aren't out yet. They can't be booked until rates are released. That used to happen the first Sunday in August, but last year it occurred mid-June.

New rates usually come out in August, but the 2012 rates were released in early to mid June 2011. I would start looking in June just in case they come out early again. Like others have said, the deposit amount you were given was most likely the highest rate for 2012 as you can book room only now, which is quoted at the highest rate for 2012 and then will be adjusted once the new rates are released. Keep in mind that if you book room only and want to change to a package later, the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. But if you want to book a package or book online, you have to wait until the new rates are released. Happy planning .
