Hello fellow disers

can someone be kind enough to clarify the ABD deposit cancel policy?

the way we read it is that for a full 100% refund of your deposit- you must cancel 14 days after you booked your trip.
for example if we book an ABD trip today (12th June) 14 days (26th of June) is the last day we could cancel and get 100 % of our deposit back.

is that correct?

don't know why...but for some reason we were under the impression ABD was like DCL
were you can cancel anytime (up until close to your adventure) and get 100% refund
and then less % back the closer you are to departure

You have 14 days to cancel with no penalty. This is the exact verbiage from the travel agreement. This is from last year, but I don't believe it has changed since we took our first ABD in 2008, so it's probably still the same. Bold text is ABD's.


NAME CHANGES, GUEST CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS: Reservations and package components are non-transferable. We will make a reasonable effort to accommodate changes to Guest names prior to departure provided that at least one member of the originally-booked party travels; however, we reserve the right to pass on to you any third party costs (such as from airlines or Suppliers (as defined herein)) we incur in so doing. You may cancel by telephone or in writing. The time of cancellation will be the date upon which we receive notice from you. If you fail to execute and return the Adventure Travel Agreement (see below) to us no later than 14 calendar days after booking, it will be deemed a cancellation by you. If you make changes to the vacation commencement date or chosen vacation, it will be deemed a cancellation by you. If you cancel, amounts paid, minus cancellation fees and nonrefundable amounts, will be promptly refunded. Unless stated otherwise in your Guest Confirmation, the following cancellation policy shall apply: regardless of when you book, your US$300 deposit is refundable for 14 calendar days after original booking, notwithstanding the following cancellation fees, calculated in calendar days prior to vacation start date and irrespective of resale by us: 90 days or more: US$300 per person; 60-89 days: 25% of the land package price; 30-59 days: 50% of the land package price; 0-29 days: 100% of the land package price. No refunds will be made in the event of interruption or cancellation by you after the vacation start date. All appropriate refunds will be made in U.S. dollars directly to your credit card, via check or through your travel agent (if applicable). We will not be responsible for the receipt of refund monies by you from your travel agent, some of whom may withhold an agency cancellation fee. The cancellation terms above apply only to the land package price and exclude, among other things, cancellation charges from air carriers. You have 14 days from time of booking to cancel in order to get your deposit back. After the 14 days, you deposit is forefeit and you will only get back any monies you've paid beyond the deposit. So if your deposit is $600 and you have since paid $2000 more off your trip and you cancel after the 14 day window, you will only get the $2000 back, not the $600 deposit.

I just booked my trip earlier this week and it was 14 days to cancel with full refund.

And the 14 days has been ABD's policy since I started taking them in 2008.

We lost our entire deposit when we cancelled our Egypt trip the first year they brought it out. We cancelled it because of the unrest in the region at the time and we didn't feel comfortable travelling there and my TA said Disney was not going to cancel the trip. This was about 3 months after we booked.

ABD will work with you if you rebook a trip in the same year. For example - last year, I cancelled the Central Europe trip to book Germany instead (I needed to do that since I switched jobs and wanted to change the month we were traveling, from June to Aug). We didn't lose our deposit - it was just transferred to the new trip.
