I went to the Dentist 2 weeks ago, and had my teeth cleaned/x-rayed/examined, yadda yadda...

Well, I have a cracked tooth for starters, ok, so I don't eat on that side till fixed.

But, ever since I went to the dentist, my gums have been very irritated around ONE tooth! So much so that it is swollen on both sides and BRIGHT red on the inside. I have been flossing the HECK out of it because it feels like something is stuck in there. Dentist told me to floss to toughen up my gums that are sensitive.

Ok, so what do I do about the irritation? Anyone have any suggestions?

You might have an abscess on that side. Is it the same tooth that's cracked?
Try gargling with salt water to see if it reduces the swelling at all.

If you have something stuck in your gums, they will get swollen and red. Flossing would get it out tho...maybe a trip back to the dentist and let him take a close look?

Good luck!

You may be cutting yourself & keeping the area irritated with the floss. Be very gentle in that area, maybe even skip the area right around that tooth for a day or two. Try some Peroxyl rinse & brush very well. You may have had some infection in your gums. Is the sore area around the cracked tooth?

Nope, not same tooth, my tooth that is cracked is a top molar, lol, I forget the number that the dentist DETAILED out for me so that I wouldn't break it! I got back in 2 weeks to have that fixed. The gums that are swollen are bottom front and it is that irritated that my lip hurts!!!! :sad1: and it didn't hurt BEFORE I went to the dentist... so I am thinking they stuck it with that sharp thing and maybe I just keep irritating it?

Just try rinsing it out with salt and warm water for a couple of days and see if it helps.

Yes, rinse with warm salt water and just brush around those teeth for about 3 days (lay off the floss for ONLY 3 days because as another poster mentioned you may be accidentally cutting yourself).

Honestly, It sounds like the bottom front teeth probably had some calculus on them (this is the most common area of calculus build-up) and the hygienist removed it. After calculus is removed the surrounding tissue can be very sensitive for a few days.

I want my calculus back, lol... this hurts!!!!

Oh well, 3 Days it is! I even rinsed with peroxide trying to make it UNinfected!
