So I went to the dentist and had 6 cavities. 2 were tiny and I had 4 others. I have had nothing but problems with the other 4. The first one once the pain killers wore off was in horrible pain. The dentist had to redo it and I was better. A few days later one of the other fillings started hurting with an extreme sensitivity to cold, so they did a root canal. Now the other two are starting to give me sensitivity to cold and are giving me shooting pains. So, the price just keeps going up and I'm wondering if I have a bad dentist. Not only that but were two weeks to our cruise and vacation and I have tonsillitis. I wish I made more regular trips to the dentist, but I'm wondering if what the odds of Malpractice are. Any dentists out there that can give some professional advice?

First---
The deeper the tooth issue the long you are going to take to recover from the surgery. Even normal none deep filing you will have issues. Sometimes a filling can fix and issue but if you didn't take care of your teeth that could turn in to a root canal......

Cant really claim malpractice because you didn't take care of you teeth to start with....

Best friend works as a dentist assistant :)

I've been in the dental field for almost 15 years. If they are white fillings...it is VERY common to have sensitivity in the tooth for Months and months after the filling is done. Some people are lucky and don't have this. But many do. The larger fillings you are talking about could have been VERY close to the nerve...the one needing the root canal was most likely one of those teeth. Sometimes a nerve will settle down and other times Not... In your case it sounds like it did not... It's not really anything you can call Malpractice... sorry... its just very normal and common... and dentistry is very expensive with or without insurance. Hope your teeth settle down...
If the others continue to be bothersome for awhile...the dentist may drill it out and place a sedative filling in it for awhile... However, your still going to need to have the permanent one put in. Sorry to say there is no quick fix for this.

The only thing I can suggest is to get a second opinion. Sorry to hear you having issues. I hope it all works out.

I go to the dentist every 6 months like clockwork, my entire life. I had several cavities as a child as a result of not having flouride in our water. I have had to have almost every silver filling in my mouth replaced in the last 6-7 years. I have had a couple of new fillings that just didn't feel right. The dentist was able to reshape the fillings somewhat, and they felt better. They eventually did "settle", and feel like the old ones. I know you know this now, but it is very important to take care of your teeth - especially flossing. A little preventative care of your teeth can make a huge difference in the long run.
