I did the teeth whitening from my dentist on my top teeth a few years ago and did work very well but I remember not liking the trays too much. Or the goopy nasty feeling and taste! Small discomfort tho for a beautiful bright smile!!

well in the midst of doing it , i noticed that my bottoom tooth appears to have the enamel cracked! so i maybe getting more work down the road:( its never ending..

OK that definitely helps. You absolutely want to retain #22 as an implant for an overdenture. Do you have any retention on the opposite side--possibly thats the molar you speak of? #19 is on the lower left. How have you done with just teeth remaining on the lower left so far?

Just my opinion but I would prefer to have retention on the lower right as well. what is the condition of #19? or is it possibly #30?

I would still follow through and get a complete tx plan from my DDS along with the OS. Even though he/she says that they can work with what you have you should really have a plan B treatment plan in this situation. A retro fit of an implant to a denture can sometimes be tricky.

Sounds like you have a very kind DDS. The cost of implant parts and lab time can add up.

I know that the tooth I am getting the implant on now says #22 on the referral form from my dentist. I have no lower teeth except for the two roots that were left that had the posts cemented in them. 22 is on MY front left and the other post is same location but on my front right. ? Does that help? So the denture snaps "onto" those two posts in the front.

When you say Plan B, do you mean in case the implant doesn't line up with my denture after all is said and done (and spent)? I hadn't thought of a plan B. My dentist made it seem like I either got implants or I had the two roots extracted and got a new complete lower denture, which to me was never an option. Mentally, it bothers me very much to have these teeth, the thought of having to use a bonding agent to hold them down and go thru all the adjustments of a new set of dentures brings tears to my eyes. I guess it is possible that something could happen and it wouldn't fit with my denture?

When I look inside the denture, there are little metal "o"rings that the posts snap into. Just to help you envision what I have going on here. I know back in the beginning, shortly after I had my teeth pulled and the denture made, one of the o rings fell out and my dentist replaced it and said it was only a few bucks, not to worry about it. The only othe hardware is the little post sticking out of my tooth root. So I can't imagine the "parts and pcs" my dentist mention costing too awful much?

Hope that helps clear it up a little more....

So VERY VERY true. Thanks Sara.

My DH broke a tooth a couple weeks ago and had it pulled this week. He'll need to get an implant in 2-3 months. The ortho surgeon that pulled the tooth said our insurance plan didn't cover implants but since he is in their network he is giving us the discounted price which is $1,825.

That's great news! Can't wait to hear how the end result is!

I am still waiting to hear back from my medical insurance as to what/if anything they are willing to cover. Hoping to hear something soon because I need to get this done and I don't want to do it too close to our trip to Universal in April. I don't want to be sore for that!!

Medicine was not invented in the United States. Pioneering work has been done by doctors around the world.

Modern dental implants are based upon work originally done by the Swede Per-Ingvar Branemark. His work led to the founding of Nobel Biocar which produces dental implants.

The Wikipedia article on Dental Tourism notes, with regard to costs,
"With the international nature of some products and brands it is possible to make a valid [cost] comparison. For instance, the same porcelain veneer made in a lab in Sweden can be as much as 2500 AUD in Australia, but only 1200 AUD in India. The price difference here is not explainable by reference to the material cost." (2500 Australian dollars = 2263 US dollars and 1200AUD=1086USD)

With an implant and crown costing two to three times the cost of a veneer you are looking at thousands of dollars difference. So if you are going to have multiple implants and crowns done in the United States, you could pay for your trip to WDW with the difference by having the work done overseas.

For vision correction surgery, the popular LASIK procedure was developed in Colombia by a Spanish doctor. This was after the Ukrainian doctor Svyatoslav Fyodorov (then in the old USSR) pioneered vision correction surgery by inventing the radial keratotomy procedure.

Plastic surgery has taken off in many Latin American countries such as Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Colombia. The surgeons there are highly experienced.

Some of the premier cardiac care in the world is performed in Bangalore, India by Dr Devi Shetty and his team of surgeons at his Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital. Surgeons who do a procedure more frequently tend to have better outcomes with their patients. In cardiac care, better outcomes mean more patients go home alive.

Medical care in the United States is outrageously expensive. It does not mean it is inherently better. Overseas you will not have the same options for litigation if things do go wrong. It is something each person must consider when deciding if overseas medical care is right for them.

Do research. If you are not comfortable with the idea, then so be it. But traveling for medical care is an affordable way to receive excellent care for many.

Yea, but how much is a plane ticket to India to have that done?? Any have you really looked at what quality health care in India costs? Plus hotel costs, food ect. You are not saving any money that way, and that was exactly my point. The only places that really save you money by the time you factor in the cost of getting and staying there are almost always substandard. BTW Venezuela has changed a LOT since there was any significant research being done there. NOT a place I want to go. MY best friend's husband has family in Caracas. They are upper middle class and cannot get quality health care. The political situation is unstable at best.
Plastic surgery in Latin America is not subject to the same standards of care as here. It has really taken off because it is largely unregulated. They can do what they want as far as standard of care, amount of training ect with no accountability for the most part.
Also, price difference in materials is one thing, but what about quality of work done? Wikipedia in NOT a valid source for any kind of info. Ayone can just type anything in there. I don't aloow my students to use it because there is just too much bad and incomplete infor there.

well i had a minor set back :headache: the chase health advantage plan apparently wanted all $6600 paid in one year so the minimum due was way more than I could afford so I had to spend a couple hours on the phone figuring out what i could do... i ended up using my taxes and paying them off and charging the disney trip.... i had no other choice :surfweb: but everything will work out for the best in the end  I have 2 more treatments and right now my teeth are starting to become too sensitive so I might skip a day or two. My appointment is next wednesday to get my temporaries... so not too much longer.. then ill post a pic :rotfl:

I have worked as a dental assistant for 20 years so am finding this post interesting.

DISNEYLOVER70: I have seen how patients deal with lower dentures and can say that for many reasons having the posts/implant overdenture is so much better than having a complete lower denture. The adhesive cream does not hold that well and a lot of patients wearing a complete lower denture are miserable. So although it is a huge cost right now, you will be much happier in the long run.

Mommyof3princess27: Be careful that you aren't bleaching your teeth too much and then matching the veneers to the very white shade. Bleached teeth will eventually darken over time but the veneers will not so your back teeth will not match. You will be forced to maintain the bleach shade by using the trays over and over wich can really cause sensitivity.

I am hearing that more and more. I am at a standstill right now with the process. My dentist and oral surgeon are working on a pre-authorization to submit to my MEDICAL insurance to see if they can get them to pay for the procedure or at least SOME because my problem is caused by a medical condition. Hoping and praying this works out.

Oh my goodness! You guys are scaring me!! My daughter is missing 13 adult teeth. Currently, she has braces on to move her teeth and prepare for implants. They are hoping to keep the implants needed down to 3, but holy cow! The braces were $6200 and then someday, we'll have the costs of the implants.

My older daughter is missing 7 adult teeth, but they think braces will be enough for her.

My 2 youngest are also missing teeth, but not sure yet how many or what work they'll need.:-(

On a side note, me and my oldest son each had an extra tooth! Too bad my extra tooth and DH's missing teeth couldn't even out in our kids so they could have perfect teeth!
