Demolition at Pleasure Island - Orlando Sentinel Article

Okay, I so don't believe this what so ever. The worst I have seen, is an Orange County officer in the process of arresting a pimp and a hooker at Down Town Disney. And of course this was well deserved. And to be honest with you Disney did a dang good job of trying to cover it up, being that this is a family place.
All I can say is, " good job Disney". Keep up the great work! The only people who are being arrested are the real criminals. Come on guys you really think Disney would ruin their reputation like that, by arresting people who are wrongly accused. People get arrested because they are criminals and they deserve it......

Disney employees are notorious along with Orange County Sheriff's Officers for falsely arresting and prosecuting people on their premesis.

Dude, if you hadn't tried to shoplift the Stitch plush by hiding it in your pants, they wouldn't have subjected you to the body cavity search.

Don't be bitter, just be good.

:sad2:

Oh sure. They also take the perps to the Orange Co jail via the invisible monorail that goes through the Swan and Dolphin. THAT is the real reason for those big, dark squares.
And if the person does not fess up they are FORCED to buy into DVC at twice the rate!
;)

:sunny: A warning to anyone going to Pleasure Island in Orlando.

Disney employees are notorious along with Orange County Sheriff's Officers for falsely arresting and prosecuting people on their premesis. Disney and OCSD have an understanding, that boils down to a racket. Disney officials will point out to OCSD Officers, anyone who they deem a criminal, who will then be falsely arrested and prosecuted. Since the park is full of tourists from out of town, very few, if any are able to contest or fight their charges, and so they either (a) forfeit their bail, or (b) end up paying hefty fines to close the case. It is rare for a tourist to return to fight a costly legal battle and win. And any attempt is usually futile, coming up against false testimonies given by Disney Security and OCSD officers (supposedly under oath.) Further, Disney is notorious to withold video surveillance tapes that prove innocence, as this racket generates good money for OCSD and it allows Disney to have a mutually beneficial arrangement with the local police department (who perform private details for them.)

This is not nonsense, a little research will show you that there are many such cases that show this corrupt practice is going on. In many cases, children have also been detained in similar sitiuations. Why risk the freedoms of your children & family, by going to a fake, corporate, generic place like disney. On close inspection, you will find that there are more shops and stores on site, than anything else. Sounds more like a mall, than a theme park.

Disney is a pretty poor, unimaginative choice for smart vacationers. :sunny:

Why not move the clubs down to the far end away from the shopping village. That way you can keep it adult friendly and not interfere with the kids enjoying the rest of Downtown. Oh, the cost......

I totally agree with this idea. What a great Idea. Not like Disney would listen to us any way though. Their sooooo dang cheap.

It has nothing to do with being cheap. The Pleasure Island concept failed. Period. Call it poor planning. Call it poor execution. Or we can just acknowledge that not enough adult, club-going Walt Disney World guests are willing to pay $12 per head to get into a few clubs.

If attendance was great, there would be no need to make changes to PI. But that's not the case. I'm sure there are many people who disagree with these moves, but those there just aren't enough of you to make it financially viable.

Pleasure Island didn't fail. It was very popular, and VERY successful in it's high tide. However, tides change and it's no longer "the spot" to be as it once was.

Simply, There are to many choices of places to go between Downtown Orlando, City Walk and Pleasure Island.

I'll grant that. It's often hard to remember since we are so many years removed from its "high tide."

Bottom line: something had to be done. It won't be popular with some, but Disney will try to appeal to the broadest audience possible.

After a bit of tinkering Disney found the price point that would get enough people into the clubs (and more importantly, buy lots & lots of booze) - Pleasure Island turned out to be very successful.

What changed is that Disney thinks it can be more successful if they sell off all the locations and collect rent and a percentage of the take. That way Disney won't have to pay for maintenance, security, take a risk on merchandise inventory, pleasing guests or any of the other thousand little details you have to fret over when you run a business.

Disney is outsourcing Pleasure Island and making other people worry about attracting guests. Disney is going to get its money now no matter how many people show up. If a club or restaurant doesn't do business, they go under. Disney can then pick the next sucker in line and continue collecting rent.

Walt Disney World is being turned into a giant Monopoly Game where Disney is the banker.

P.S. - Pleasure Island came into "slack tide" because Disney refused to do the routinue reinvestment that any business has to do to remain popular. Clubs were allowed to grow stale instead of being refreshed. Unique merchandise locations (with expensive inventories) were replaced with generic, cheap park outlets. Routine maintenance was cut and the place looked worn down and seedy. Any restaurant or club that followed the same practices would have seen it's popularity decrease. Disney isn't immune to the rules that govern real businesses.

That seems to be a theme of late all over WDW property which is also getting a lot of "pub" via the WDW fan websites (and not just our rumors / news board on the Dis). Al Lutz wrote a pretty telling article on the very same subject after his recent trip to WDW. It appears that WDW is falling into the malaise that DL did after 30-40 years of existence. It took big cheanges at DL to get them to do things like re-paint, maintain clean rides, etc... Hopefully some people at WDW get that "we need better upkeep" mentality soon.

Went back last night for the first time since Halloween. Construction is basically complete--no more walls! The building that housed Missing Link and the character store is empty, but the rest of the Island looks finished.
