Deluxe vs Mods

Just got back from the Villas at the WL and can't say enough good things about it. We spend so much time at the pools. The staff was very friendly and the view of the courtyard is awesome. Next time we go we will be definately be staying at the WL.

I look at it like this. If you plan on spending little or hardly anytime at your hotel, book the moderate. BUT, if you want to relax and do things at your leisure, book a deluxe. Especially the WL!! God, I miss it already.........

I am not arguing with you in the slightest, because I love my DVC and those resorts have so much to offer since they are deluxe level as well. But I do have to say, that relaxing and leisure can very easily be accomplished at the mods. They have great pools with slides and hottubs. CBR has a total of 7 pools and with its lovely winding paths, beaches (where you can see Illuminations), and the bike and boat rentals all lend to R&R. All the mods do. I have spent my fair share of time relaxing at all four of the moderate level resorts so I know it can be done. To me the mods are the perfect blend of financial compromise, theming, beauty, and relaxation. I don't think the deluxes surpass the mods that much in the department of escaping from life and the parks.

Now bed wise they are not as good, especially if you are used to and need a Queen size bed. And they don't have balconies and only CSR has room service. But I still say that relaxing and moderate resorts go hand in hand. JMHO.

Generally speaking in the Deluxe vs. Mod question:

- Deluxes usually have quicker and more varied transportation options to the parks than Mods. The exception to this is AKL, which requires buses to everywhere.

- Deluxes tend to be themed slightly more than Mods, though to me the Mods still look pretty magical in that department

- Deluxes usually have some kind of distinctive feature to them you won't find in Mods, such as say the Luau show at the Poly, the views of MK at CR, the high-end luxurious feel at GF, the savannah view at AKL, etc.

- Yes, Deluxes often share buses with other Deluxes. I've not usually found this to be a problem because there are usually fewer guests at the Deluxes, so the pickups tend to be quicker. The exception, for us, in this department was staying at BC. Its bus seemed to stop at every other EPCOT resort before dropping us off. We've always found bus service at the MK area resorts to be very quick and efficient.

Please help me justify the $$$$ difference. We have never stayed at a deluxe but have stayed in the mods. We have a room at WL in Nov. and its $1000 cheaper to stay at a mod. Other than the boat to MK, I need to know the pros and cons. I keep going back and forth about this.

Two words made the difference to us: queen beds! We were booked at POFQ for our January trip, but after a weekend away at a hotel that had double beds, we decided to shell out the extra $1000 for WL. At home, we have a king, and those doubles were so small that the only way we could get comfortable was to split up - DH slept alone, I shared with DD6, and DS9 took the couch. At Disney, without a couch and staying for 11 nights? Not my idea of a good time!

The balcony is a nice perk too, for those nights when we aren't so tired that we just fall into bed at the same time as the kids. And WL does look gorgeous. But it is the beds that sold us on the upgrade.

Must admit we have only stayed at mod resort (POFQ) and Love the small quaint atmosphere and boat to DTD. Being just me and DH, we always ask for a king bed cause the full bed is a bit smaller than we are used to. Though I would love to afford a deluxe, hubby and I find that with the savings at the moderate,we hope to start planning 2 trips each year. Thus I would rather go moderate twice a year, than deluxe only once. We spend little time at the resort, other than after the parks close. We love to sit in the lounge at POFQ and listen to Elliot Dyson, he's pretty awesome.

PS..must admit DH wants to book a deluxe for our 30th anniv. in a couple of years. We just started vacationing again at WDW and just love the whole experience no matter where we stay.
