I finally booked my May Trip. We're going to St. Augustine for 3 nights and then to Port Orleans Riverside. Got the AP rate of $119 for 5/18 - 5/23. We've been staying deluxe for some time now. However, I stayed at POR for a couple of nights in January during a business trip. And, I loved it. So much so that we've decided to try it for this trip and save some $$$. Reason being we're planning on going back in August for our anniversary and staying at the Dolphin for 7 nights. Got a great rate of $129 for that trip.

I just had to say OH BOY! I had the best CM to work with when I called - so much so that I'm calling to find out who his leader is and I'm praising this man. He spent 25 minutes with me helping me decide where to stay. I think he called himself "Caldwell." Which obviously isn't his name..I guess.

Okay - now that I've gone on and on, I'd like to hear from folks who typically stay deluxe that have gone back to moderate...

Were you disappointed??? How was the switch??

Thanks,

PamNC

We generally stay in deluxes, but tried POFQ last August and loved it! My girls actually chose to go back there again for spring break (not for financial reasons, just because they wanted to go back) and we will do a split stay between POFQ and the BWI.

If you tried POR on business and enjoyed it, there is no reason that you can't expect to have a great time there with your husband.

I have alternated from deluxe to moderate (the Port Orleans French Quarter is my choice) many times. Since I spend so little time in the room, a moderate is enough. I find it easy to get to the parks, and the moderates are quite pleasant to relax at if I need a break from the parks.

The main thing I miss about staying at the deluxe resorts is the easy access to the parks. I love staying at the Epcot resorts because you can walk to Epcot and MGM (I ride a bus to work every day--it's nice not to have to get on one every day of a trip), and I loved the Poly for monorail access to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom.

I'm feeling better now about switching to a moderate for this trip. Like I said, I stayed there 2 nights in January when I was there on business and I loved it. I liked the southern charm of the resort and the CM's were just as Disneyfied as the Deluxe CM's. I will miss the easy access of walking to the parks or hopping on the monorail. There is nothing like it! But, I think I'll be okay this time.

There actually is a sit-down restaurant at POR - it's called Boatwrights. And, the bus issue isn't an issue because we'll have our car.

Any more opinions on going moderate from deluxe, bring em' on. Good or bad!

We went from WL to CSR, and loved it! The room was smaller, but not too noticeably. There was only 1 sink. There was a curtain that separated the sink area from the bedroom area, which was nice. Our bathtub was nicer, seemed bigger with a place to sit down at the one end. The grounds were fantastic! There were multiple pools, and their main pool was awsome! Still had the coffee makers, the mickey soap, shampoo and lotion. CSR has a food court-type CS restaurant and a TS restarant. CSR has 4 bus stops, where as WL just had 1. We truly loved both, though WL will always hold a special place in our heart, being our "first" :goodvibes

We usually stay deluxe and on our previous trip we were going to try POR well we didnt even make it one day...We had to leave lol...I guess we are spoiled

My DH and I stay at GF when we go alone and at POR when we are with the kids. We love both and have no problem switching between the two.

Go to POR and have fun!

(By the way, Caldwell probably is really his name. It was my Granddaddy's name and I have given it to my son as his middle name. It is a scottish name.)
