It's been a long time since I've been to WDW, and a lot has obviously changed. I've never stayed at any of the deluxe resorts, but am now researching for a possible trip in 2008. I guess I'm a little surprised with the pricing level of some of them. Here is a list of the Deluxes in the order that I see them from most expensive to least (please correct me if you think I have the order wrong):

Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
Polynesian Resort
Boardwalk Inn/Beach Club Resort (about even?)
Contemporary Resort
Wilderness Lodge
Animal Kingdom Lodge

I thought the Contemporary would have been closer to the top, if not at the top, simply due to location. What am I missing? What do the others offer that justify the higher room rates?

Location is what the deluxe hotels offer.

  • Grand Floridian Resort and Spa - The best deluxe. On the Monorail (easy access to MK)
  • Polynesian Resort - On the monorail (easy access to MK). Cool theming. Nice pool.
  • Yacht/Beach Club - Closest to Epcot. The BEST pool (SAB).
  • Boardwalk Inn - Close to Epcot and Disney Studios. The boardwalk!
  • Contemporary Resort - On the monorail (easy access to MK). Can even walk to MK.
  • Wilderness Lodge - Great theming! Just a boat ride to MK. Very relaxing!
  • Animal Kingdom Lodge - The animals! Great theming
All of the above appeal to me. The Contemporary seems to bland for me, but does offer a great location

If you never stayed at a deluxe hotel, then by all means do so!!

The Contemporary is slightly cheaper because it has the rooms in the South Wing that aren't in the tower. While those rooms are still the same deluxe level room, they don't have balconies, the views aren't as nice, and you have to walk from the main tower where everything is to get to the wings. If you want to stay in the tower, the Contemporary's room rates are pretty much up there with the Poly and the GF.

According to this site: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-2007.htm#DELUXE, a CR Tower room with MK view is $515 in peak season, while a GF room with MK view is $630, and the Poly is at $600. At the BI and BC, you get a water/pool view for $500-510. Of those, CR's MK view sounds like a bargain. Is the CR missing something (other than the theming)?

The CR is going through some re-construction right now as the North Wing was demolished to make way for ???. Also some interior changes are taking place in the public areas. Its still a WDW classic.

the CR until this latest rehab was not popular. Now it is a hot item.

It use to rent for less than WL when you got closer to your dates.

hopefully those days are gone - when the CR had to greatly discount it rooms to fill them.

When I was on the phone with CRO I was inquiring about CR. The CM on the phone said that the construction should not cause a problem for our stay and that they were building a DVC tower in the north wing spot. I know everyone was speculating that anyway, but that is what the CM told me. Just thought I would pass that along.
