First, is purchasing a dining plan a good idea/value?

If so, by upgrading to the deluxe, do you get what you pay for?

Thanks!

It's going to depend on how many in your party, how many children under 10, how much table service you intend to eat, and whether you would ordinarily order the same courses with every meal.

Plus, whether or not the convenience of having your meals prepaid is worth anything to you.

So, if we have 4 adults, 3 younger boys (8,6,3), eat at least one table service per day with some days twice, and like some variety (with some exception for the kids who tend to like the same things), what do you think?

I'm probably not the best to answer - I am single, no kids and don't use the dining plan. Your kids are all under 10 which makes the plan a better value for you than it would be for many. Don't know about the deluxe plan. How hung up are you on two TS per day? With the deluxe you get 3 meal credits per night and it isn't really the best deal to use them for counter service. For 2 TS a day you would probably have to do a number of signature restaurants or dinner shows to make the deluxe worth your while.

My DH and I have found the DxDDP to be well worth the money. For a 7 night/8 day trip we have 2 ADRs per day and 3 of the are signature. Last Oct when we did this I came home and added up all the receipts and found that the cost of our food was almost $500 more than we spent on the DxDDP.

We enjoyed having 2 TS meals a day and getting an app, entree and dessert. I set it up so half of the time we have breakfast, the other half lunch and dinner every night. It works out really well for us. Unfortunately we don't have kids yet so I can't comment on exactly how much you'll be saving. But I would have to agree with TDC Nala... I think you'll get a better value out of it.

For my son (9) and myself, the DxDDP is much better than the DDP. We did DDP last time and paid at least 200 OOP (mind you, we did a few 2 credit TS). We are doing a buffet every day (my son's appetite is bigger than the kids meals some times), and we don't have to worry about "budgeting" our credits, or worrying about whether this CS should be an OOP CS, or a DDP CS.
And, the A type in me did the math, for us, ordering what we would normally get (not the most expensive thing on the menu so that we get the extreme best value), our 11 night stay will mean we save a little over $300 (the cost of everything OOP vs the cost of the DxDDP). I just assumed that we'd "spend" an average of $3.00 on our snacks.
