Would you buy tickets on Delta now with the threat of them filing for bankruptcy?

Yep, I have tickets for Nov and will be booking my Oct '06 flight with Song as soon as the door opens in Nov!!! I love Song.

Have tickets on Delta for DH and me in Sept (Colorado) and then for me and girlfriends BACK from Orlando in Nov.(flying SW down) I am not stressed about potential for bankruptcy. Also had tickets on Delta to Italy LAST fall and i was little nervous about that because we had gotten such an amazing fare! Hope they keep flyin'! By the way, great Delta fares showing up today for November (didn't check other dates) from RDU to Orlando (under $90 round trip and more times available than on SW) Go to www.delta.com because Travelocity is showing much higher Delta fares than you can get booking directly with Delta...at least right now.

I would not be concerned about it. I just booked on Song for April and loved the fare. I got round trip tickets from Boston during our school vacation time, for less than JetBlue wanted for a one way ticket. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Bankruptcy simply means that companies they owe money too will be getting less of it, and employees will be getting less money as well, probably lots less. But it is not that they are going out of business.

The Delta/Song rates from Boston to MCO in the past couple of days have been too good to pass up for our April trip. So I'm in at $496 round trip for the 3 of us. Hopefully any Bankruptcy proceedings will be to consolidate their debt and reduce their interest rates/payments to show their stockholders a positive cash flow. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope they don't drop the ball.
Good Luck all.

Right now Delta is offering the cheapest fare out of my area for December. I am only hesitating because I don't want to get rescheduled at a really goofy time, or with connections. And am waiting and waiting like the rest of you to see what SW offers.

Yes, I wouldn't hesitate if it made sense in all other considerations.

Keep in mind that United and USAir have been in bankruptcy for a while and are still out there flying. I don't think the general public would notice much. There might be some schedule changes, but since the "majors" do those every quarter anyway it's not like that is a big change.

I just bought Delta tickets for a cruise in December. I thought they were very high at $276.90 pp/rt from Knoxville. It is a direct flight, though, which is WAY worth a little extra $$ to me. The only other airline that flies direct from here is Independence and they are in financial trouble too. The same direct flight I bought from Delta was even more expensive on the "low-fare" airline!! Go figure. I kind of decided that fuel and gas prices are only going up, so I'd better book now.

Shannon,
Actually I don't think you did bad. My mother lives in Knoxville and any time we can get her under $300 ANYPLACE we are doing well... She drives to Nashville a lot for SW!

You're probably right...especially for the week before Christmas. But for our flight in May I think I paid around $150 pp/rt for a Delta direct flight from Knoxville to Orlando.

When we cruised last year, we also drove to Nashville and flew SW for about $49 each way. Hard to beat that!!!

Thanks, everyone, for your input.

I just booked tickets on Delta for a business trip next month and another one in October. I've flown United before and after they declared bankruptcy.

ShannonRT,

I live near Knoxville also. We're flying out this Sunday and Delta was cheaper than any other airline when I booked too. I've never flown out of Knoxville before this trip though, always went out of Atlanta. However, the traffic going to the Atlanta airport is so bad these days, I'd rather pay more and fly from home.

I heard a rumor that Southwest maybe taking over Delta! Don't know how true it is! But that's what I was told!

That one goes in the NO WAY file. SW does not want DL's union issues, DL's mixture of planes, DL's high gate fees at Atlanta etc... If that happened bye, bye SW! It would violate EVERYTHING that has made them profitable.

Person that told me has a son n law that works for one of the two airlines so I assume it is true because he's not happy! so I guess we'll wait in see if what he said isn't true and I'd be surprised! it will be taking place shortly. So I guess we'll have to see.

The main reason the big airlines file for bankrupcy these days is to break their contracts and get concessions on labor, gate fees, airplane leases. They reorganize their finances and come out ahead. No need to worry.

I agree with Carol on Southwest. They may buy some of Delta's gates or planes (SW exclusively flies 737's) but there is no way they will take over the whole airline, too messy.
