The XMas holiday flight I have been stalking on delta.com just dropped its price by $155!!! Should I book?? There are still plenty of seats - so should I wait it out??? I DON'T KNOW!! I am using FF miles for 1 ticket, so I only need to pay for 2 of them - the price is still up there, but it is now very close to what I would most likely pay on SW for the same flight (direct, non stop.)

I am so torn!!

Things could go either way. Gas prices aren't stable and with hurricane season coming, they'll probably rise even more. I say if it's a price you're comfortable paying, get it. I'm waiting it out now, but I'm also okay with driving:) Good luck whatever you decide.

If the times are right and you are comfortable with the price, I say book now. If the price drops isn't Delta one of the airlines that will issue you a credit for future travel.
Whatever you decide, good luck.

Yes, times are "Practically perfect in every way" (M. Poppins) and the base flight price is only $45 higher than full fare SWA which is what I would be expecting to pay with SWA once those dates are released for December.

Of course, knowing my luck Delta will switch the times once I do book these flights. But then again, they already have changed the times once since I started stalking these back in March....

I think I have decided to book! Thanks!

Nowadays Delta charges a change fee even if the only reason for rebooking is to get a lower fare. So you might eveh have to pay more to make the "change".

So Delta goes back into the group of airlines where it is better to wait for a fare war (which seems to be going on right now from what your described) instead of buy at their everyday low price.

Funny - I took Delta's "everyday low price" to mean that on an individual day, the fare price for a particular flight is $X.xx - so a shopper does not need to check the web site multiple times in a day to see if the price changes.

From what you describe, perhaps the "everyday low price" actually meant that was the lowest price Delta would ever be charging for a particular flight.

In my instance, I have been stalking these flights since the 331 day window opened. They started at $600 RT, spiked to $998 during the pending pilot strike, and have now come down to $463. Since this is during the Christmas holiday break, it is my guess that this could be the lowest they may go. I was going to wait until SWA opens their window through December, but after checking the SWA full fare today (which is what I have paid during previous Christmas breaks) I decided to jump on that Delta fare as it is only $45 higher. I would rather fly Delta and for $45, I took the chance the fare will not be going any further down. I may be wrong, but only time will tell.

I am just happy to have these flights booked, I have reserved my towncar transportation and I am looking forward to using the resort check in service for the trip home (not that I am getting too far head of myself :thumbsup2 )
