I was hoping to use some of our Skymiles/Amex Rewards for airfare in March. When I checked the Delta website, they offered one way of our trip, but not the return trip. Since Song seems to price each leg separately, do you think I can use miles for one-way & pay $$$ for the reutrn trip? This sounds too logical to be possible. I wanted to hear from the Bds. and have some background info, before I call & ask.

you can't use miles for one way....

you could check if there are award tickets available with Continental Airlines or Northwest Airlines as you can use Skymiles for award tickets on either one.

You can check availability at:
http://www.continental.com/onepass/rewards/travel/default.asp

and i like to use this site for checking Northwest:

http://usr.v7.com/wpaa/

If you find something avail. on either of these, call Delta to book, just as you normally would.

A friend of mine tried the same thing. Delta told him he could use 25000 for a one way flight and pay for the way home. He felt this was ridiculous. Unless it was an emergency trip why would anyone let them charge you 25000 airliles for a one way trip?

Gee thanks for posting this. Just reconfirms why we like the american miles better. So much easier to use, never a hassle etc. We have enough for 1 free ticket on delta. I think I will let dh have that for when he needs it himself. I think american also gives more opportunities to get the miles, not just from flights, bonuses etc.

I think it must depend on where you live. It took me forever to find a way to use my AA miles. My fav is SW if there is a seat it 's yours no load limits.

I happen to use Amerian also but over the past year I have noted that your choice of direct flights out of Boston has become very limited. When I went to Vero last month American only had a flight out of Boston at 3pm that landed in Orlando at 7pm. In fairness to Delta I can say my friend never had a problem getting tickets on airmiles with Delta until Song came along. Song is supposed to be Delta's competition for airlines like SW and JetBlue. My guess is they are being stingy with free seats until they get to the profit level that they want. I think all travelers should vote with thier walletts - whoever give you a non-stop flight for the best price should be your airline. I have seen great prices and terrible prices from all of them depending on your timing.

We are using our Skymiles on our upcoming Jan 2004 flight on Song. I was able to get two roundtrip flights on Song for 25,000 miles each. We are flying out at 6:45am and flying home at 6pm. Great flights in our view. We are flying from Logan to Orlando and back.

I just used skymiles also for a flight on Song. The weird thing was I only booked about 5 weeks out and was able to get our preferred flight times out of Newark. So I would suggest to just keep checking. I also had to book a seat for my almost 2 yo and the 1/2 price charge was only 86.00 so of course I didn't use the miles.

We have a fair amount of miles, but what we really have is a ton of Membership Rewards from our American Express acct. Our ability to use these Rewards pts., in a meaningful way, has gotten so bad that DH is finally considerering cancelling our AmEx card (& he LOVES this card, it was his before we married!!) We just got a Disney Visa & we already have $89 towards expenses at WDW & I know we'll use them.
My problems with Delta (& now Song) is that we always go to WDW in March, during DSs school vacation. We have to coordinate with the BB coach, because oldest DS stay in Fla. after our trip and flies back with his team. Because it is spring break time, free tickets seem scarce. I also refuse to fly anything but non-stop. So I guess you could say that my demands (non stop in high demand season) are the real problem & that is not really Delta/Song's fault. But my reality is why earn points that can't be used in a meaningful way. I would consider using 25,000 mi./pts. for one way on Song, if it would reduce my flight cost to $112.50+tax. I know its not really cost efficient, but its no less efficient than letting our accumulated pts. sit, unused, in our account.
