Delta Preferred Seat Question

Now if per chance a sweep mechanism dropped your seats then you can telephone and quietly ask to be put back in those seats manually giving a tight connection as an excuse, er, reason. I suppose that, immediately after getting a "no" answer to the preceding you could in the same conversation quietly ask for an earlier first flight or a later second flight (which you did your homework and picked out in advance) explicitly suggesting no change fee, again mentioning the tight connection.

To the OP, if you are changing planes in Atlanta with only a 35 min window, you face a very real risk of missing your connecting flight. Atlanta is a very large and busy airport with 6 separate terminals and if your connecting flight is in another terminal, you will probably not make the connection.

I do realize this and am a bit concerned however I'm just going to keep faith that I will all work out.:wizard: Delta has changed our flights several times since we first booked, I am hoping that the connecting flight will change to a later time. ;)

Where did anyone get that I was upset! I was happy to finally get an answer from delta:goodvibes :confused3

Capitals generally mean shouting on the internet. I am simply cautioning you that you have in effect received an upgrade to a fare class for which you did not pay, and as with any upgrade, there is a chance of losing it. Do not assume that your seat assignments will not change.

As to your email from Delta, legacy carriers in the US do not guarantee seat assignments. All have a disclaimer that they are subject to change.

There is still a good chance that you may lose these seat assignments, as you did not purchase a Y class fare.

If the airline changes its schedule, it should give you your choice of still-unsold seats on flights that work better for you without charging you any more money. Sometimes the computer buttons that need to be pushed result in your being upgraded. In turn the automated auditing and sweep processes might fail to find you but then they might succeed. Neither the automated processes nor any humans (employees) are entitled to charge you any more money but they are also not obligated to give you privileges (such as cocktails or seat selections) not a part of your originally booked ticket class.

The person on the phone can recite a simple statement "You may select that seat" and push the appropriate buttons for you just by absentmindedly looking at the screen and seeing a Y (most airlines' full coach fare class code) next to your name. Or s/he can read between the lines and follow the rules and more correctly say "You may not select that seat" because your ticket was originally, say, class T (Delta's lowest fare war fare). Or she can read between the lines and see that you have a tight connection and grant what Flyertalk calls a "waiverfavor", saying, "I am putting you in those seats" and push the appropriate buttons.

I wouldn't worry to much about making the connections. ATL is big, but they have an internal tram that is very quick and runs all the time.

I've had tight connections (due to long lines at passport control) going from the international terminal (E) over to terminals C or B and have always made it.

Good luck and have a great trip.

35 minutes is a completely legal connection in ATL. I was nervous making my first 35 minute connection but it turned out I had plenty of time....even enough to duck into the CRC for a drink!

Now if your flight it delayed there is no buffer zone, however since you are flying from PDX it will be easier to make up some time in the air.
