Delta or United for overseas travel

I prefer Delta, and I'd get Comfort+ at minimum for a trip of that length.

I've flown both United & KLM, both were just fine. I second sam_gordon's recommendation to get the Economy +/comfort+/whatever the airline you choose has. Makes a difference if you can't spring for business or first class.

Just did both.....United going. Delta coming back. Phoenix to Amsterdam
Much prefer Delta.......more leg room, better food.

Either is probably fine. US domestic airlines are so much better when you fly them internationally, in my experience. I haven't flown Delta internationally, but I flew United to Guam via Tokyo and it was nice. Have also done American from Spain and it was so much better than any domestic AA flight I've ever had.

I've flown United internationally a lot and it's fine. Nothing spectacular. Food isn't that good and seats aren't the comfiest. I would definitely try to get Premium economy at least if you can't afford First Class. The little bit of extra leg room will make a difference.

Have never flown Delta but have heard the seats are better than United.

We just flew AA JFK to Rome premium economy. It was fine. Get the Bulkhead seats if you can. No experience with Delta or UA, but I can't imagine there's a huge difference. The type of plane is going to make a bigger difference than the airline. The website seat guru can help with that.

Since we fly out of Atlanta, we almost always fly Delta. It's their hub and while you can fly other airlines, the airport is obviously set up to favor Delta.

100% Delta. In general I would pick Delta as I feel they're a step above the average airline, however I've some really terrible experiences and encounters with United so I'd also pick most other airlines over United any day.

I like Delta in general, but we just did united to Greece and it was fine too. It was all about which tickets worked for the dates we wanted, and the prices. We did get the premium economy this time, and it was a definite improvement.

I think either would be fine and as others have mentioned, business class seating is WAY more comfortable for such long flights. I doubt the extra price for first class over business is worth it. Might also choose the airline you are more likely to fly domestically since the frequent flyer miles can add up on international flights. If you can't use those miles for any future vacation plans, then they aren't worth much.

My son and his partner fly international a couple times a year for vacation. They always fly delta.

I think that holds true for most people. We live at a AA hub so AA flights are cheaper. I like Delta and flew them to Atlanta last month for a wedding, but that is the only place they have non-stop flights to from here. I think they are better than AA for coach travel.

We've flown Delta NYC to Rome in premium economy. Very comfortable flight.

Neither airline has a First Class cabin overseas.

Delta has Delta One and United has Polaris. Both are deemed Business Class.

Not surprised. Flew overseas a few years ago in business class and there were a few rows of seats in front of us for first class. Price was a LOT more expensive. Doens't surprise me to find that airlines have reconfigured their newer planes to match the demand for the various classes of seats. Those seat maps on the airline websites are a convenient way to see exactly what configuration is used on the flights you plan to take.

If you can afford Polaris class, I’d go United. Otherwise it’s a toss up - i’d base the choice on price and schedule.

We also prefer Delta. We've flown them to London and to Dublin, and will likely use them again the next time we had to Europe.

Delta all the way! I hate United, bad experience with them and other things I don't like. I won't fly United unless they are the only airline available flying to my destination, which so far thank god it hasn't happened.
