Delta changed my September flight

Just need to vent for a minute. Today I was checking my September flights on time because I needed the flight numbers. Well when I logged in and retrieved my flight details, Delta had changed my 7:30 PM flight leaving MCO to a 3:35 PM flight! So, I called Delta, they changed me to the 3:35 PM flight because they have stopped the 7:30 nonstop and the 3:35 is their last non stop to our airport for the day.

Now I can change at not cost to me to a 5:30 PM flight with a layover, or a 7:30 PM flight with a layover. Both will get me home later than my original 7:30 PM flight.

Ok, vent over. Thanks for listening.

I understand your frustration but this isn't AT ALL unusual. Now you just need to decide what's more important to you... non stop, or late departure. I just wouldn't wait too long to decide.

I agree, not at all uncommon, frustrating, but common.

Both my Spirit going to MCO and my Air Tran coming back to DTW have changed.

I used to be a flight attendant for Delta, and things were constantly changing.

This is the first time for it to happen to me. So, I know I am lucky in that respect. Delta had not notified me yet because it is May and my flight is in September. The person told me that I would have gotten an email in July.

As to which, my friend who is going to go with me, needs to let me know what she wants to do. We will be making the decision tonight.

Thanks for listening.

I feel your pain but it is not as bad as when the airline decides to stop service to the initial airport.

Whilst it is common that there are changes to flights they really ought to let you know as soon as possible. Given that other arrangements and/or other people may be depending on you the more notice you get the better.

I feel your pain too! I booked my Turks flight a year in advance with American and they shortened my last day by 4 hours. Hate it when that happens!

The same thing happened to us for our trip to Belize.

We're staying out on a cay, so we have a jumper plane to the main airport. So, we booked a flight that leaves Belize City at 4:45 pm to allow us time. Imagine our surprise when we were notified (at least they told us in advance) that they now have us booked on the 10:30 am flight. There is no way we can make that and have ample "bumper time" for delays in getting from the hotel on the cay to the small airport to the big airport.

Our choices were to book that flight, or the next day at 10:30 am. No, we requested a full refund and thankfully, we got it. We were able to book a better-timed flight on another airline and even saved $60.

Alaska canceled our overnight flight in Sept. We had to book on a morning flight and that ment staying an extra night at Disney. We were broken up about it.

We booked a flight to Hawaii with skymiles 11 months in advance. At some point, our outbound flight time changed. This caused our itinerary to have us arriving for our connecting flight after it had left. Clearly that was an issue. Delta was accommodating and my itinerary was adjusted so we could make a connection. On the positive side, we were able to arrive earlier in the day like I had wanted. (We didn't have enough skymiles for that option.)

The earlier you book a flight, the increased likelihood this can happen.

I'm sorry your travel plans got messed up. Hopefully you can still make your trip.

I agree with another poster--customers should be told closer to when the change is made. I'm not fully convinced Delta would have said anything until check-in.

Now that would be horrible! I think on that one I would have had to have a meltdown. Not on the phone with the airline, one at home in private.

I agree. I have a friend flying with me and my sister is meeting us there. The Delta agent understood that I was not happy that I hadn't already been notified.

Yes, I am surprised you were not notified. We always notify if we have a way to Ex. email, phone

Keep checking, with a flight that far away, there is a good chance of it changing again.

Glad it all worked out for you :)

I have 4 flights booked right now.....June, Sept, Dec and Jan.

They have all changed......the June one, is on AA and they did e-mail and call.
Sept one has changed twice already....no telling how many more times. I went from a 2 hour layover to a 4 hour one.

I'm sure those later ones will change again before flight time.

I'm not surprised at all that the OP wasn't notified yet. The Delta agent clearly explained she/he would have been contacted in July. First, the airlines notify the first-affected passengers first. If, for example, this is a third quarter change, it just makes sense they'd contact the July passengers before the August passengers, and them before the September ones.

Second, it's always possible there will be additional changes between now and September. The OP probably does have options, especially if there's more than a two hour time difference between the original arrival time and the new one. Honestly? I'd see if you can get better flight times and prices on another airline, and if you can then request a refund. But don't accept any changes just yet.

See the Transportation Board for more information and advice.

Good points! I missed the July thing. We call for EVERY change, and note it.

Yeah unfortunately that happens a lot to us, probably because I like booking my flights way in advance. But usually it's a minor change like instead of leaving at 6:45 it will change to 6:15. When we flew to Europe last November they contacted us to let us know that our flight was no longer leaving on Thursday and we could leave on Friday if we wanted to or book another flight with someone else.

You can count on Delta to change flights. I've used it to my advantage on my last 2 trips. I was on frequent flyer miles and the flights available for the lowest miles weren't my preferred times but I took them. Sure enough, Delta changed the schedule and I was able to change my flights to the times I wanted for no charge.

I am still working with Delta on my flight. There is another person who is going with me and we need to see which flight works for her.

I have checked other airlines and Delta still has the best price.

Again, I just needed to vent.

It is nice hearing how others have dealt with time change issues. It really does help with how I should I handle these types of situations.
