delta basic vs main cabin

We book Delta Comfort. My husband is 6'4". I typically book him in the window seat and me in the aisle seat. Sometimes we've been really lucky and no one takes the middle seat. Last flight the middle seat was assigned to a child - -I'd say about 9-10. Mom wanted me to give up my seat and take her middle seat back in the main cabin area. She was sure that I wouldn't want to sit next to a child. She was really upset when I wouldn't do it. Sorry lady, I'm not giving up my paid for Comfort aisle seat to take your middle seat in the main cabin. Her child ended up being a very bright, engaging and polite young man that I was happy to sit next to. We had a very enjoyable conversation throughout most of the flight.

Although this reply isn't strictly Disney related it touches on the subject of main cabin versus basic. We are flying Delta to Kansas this fall. I booked this trip last spring paid for the seats we wanted and heaven help anyone who thinks they can shame or scare either of us into switching with them.

Put your kid next to me. I taught for 35 years and love to talk to kids, especially middle school and older if they are willing to engage with me. If not, they will inevitably have a tablet or phone and can ignore me. As one of my T shirts says, "You can't scare me. I teach middle schoolers."

Do you want to sit next to my 12YO, even if we are there? She is actually pretty fun to talk to if it's not me. She can talk 80's music and Beatles the whole flight.

80's music and the Beetles? Count me in although my 12 YO GrandGirl might get jealous. On our last trip 2 years ago, in the line for one of the rides, I struck up a conversation with some middle schoolers from Ohio about school in general. The idea that I would just start talking to other kids fascinated her for some reason. "PaPa, you just talk to anyone don't you." I told you yes, pretty much, but you have to listen too and listening is more important sometimes. And sometimes others don't want to talk.

I would be glad to sit by your daughter because she sounds as though she is fun and funny. Those were the type of kids who spiced up my classes.

She is pretty fun and interesting for most people, she had one teacher last year with a Beatles quote in his email signature. When I told her she should talk to him about the Beatles she was pretty horrified!

It's good to have dynamic kids, if anything, to entertain people they sit next to or to be overheard.

Our family has been separated once before..Not a big deal as long as the kids aren't toddlers. From Ohio, its not a long flight to WDW so we would easily rather save the money than worry about sitting together. Once the flight is at altitude, I would walk the isle to the kids see if they need anything. Not a big issue.
I will say we have never been separated on southwest. We just check in at the 24 hour mark and we are always together. We use Southwest now exclusively. Mainly for price and they have always been great.

It's been a head scratcher for me. Heck, I'd rather sit next to a kid than some adults. We raised 6 kids (4 of our own and 2 fosters), so it's a pretty safe bet that I don't have any problems sitting next to one for a 3.5 hour flight.
Heck yeah, I love sitting with kids. Lots of room and yes, alot of times better than an adult..lol.
