Delta AMEX Perk

I was wondering if anyone has used the free checked bag through the Delta American Express (Gold or Platinum) card offer? Were you still able to check in online (with your bag) or did you have to go to the counter to check in? I just was wondering the ease of using this perk.

There's a post on this thread from someone who has used it. The card # is in your skymiles record so when you have a reservation with that skymiles # on it, it will know you have the AMEX card and will automatically show a free bag when you do online check-in. I used to be a Medallion with Delta and it worked the same way. I just applied for the AMEX on Friday, I got an e-mail to get an additional 10,000 miles if I spend $1,000 in 3 months (plus 20,000).

Watch that offer carefully. I had to fight them to get the extra miles because I made my purchase that put me over the $1000 before the 3 month anniversary but it did not post on my account until after the date. They said I did not qualify. Had to protest twice before someone saw it may way and gave me the 15,000 bonus. (Was 15,000 bonus when I did it last year.) The rules merely said I had to make $1000 in purchases; didn't say they had to post within 3 months.

Your status will be tied through your frequent flier number. So when you log in , you'll see that 0 bags are free, and can click down and also see that 1 bag is free.

I used it for my trip to Phoenix and back last week and it worked great.

Yes, there was an ad on the Delta homepage. I got an e-mail also.
