Delta Airlines Seat Allocation question

We booked our flights with Delta through Netflights and I was wondering what happens with seat allocation, there are 4 of us, my children are 12 & 10, will they try to keep us together?

We booked in June, would they have allocated our seats then or will we just be left with whatever's available once we check in.

I booked Delta flights through Orbitz five weeks ago, for travel at the end of Sept. I was able to log into my booking on the Delta website, using the flight confirmation number, and choose our seats.
I would try to choose your seating now, or you'll end up with whatever is available when you check in, which might not be much if the flights are busy.

Log on to Delta and choose your seats now. Once you choose your seats, make sure you log back into Delta periodically and make sure your seats were not moved. If Delta switches to a bigger plane or a smaller plane, your seats will be moved and sometimes separated. If you are months out from traveling, I would check about once per month until the month of our trip and then I would check once or twice a week. I had to re-select our seats 5 times because Delta changed something on their end, plane, time of flight, etc.

If you haven't already; get your 6 digit/letter confirmation number from NetFlight. With that you can log in on your reservation on delta.com and select the seats as desired.

Normally the computer will assign seats at time of buying and keep those together, but it's not a 100% given. As earlier mentioned; a chance in aircraft can lead to seats being changed around. Same goes if Delta does any other operational changes like renumbering and stuff alike. Not that likely to happen, but it can.

It's always wise to keep an eye out on your reservation. That way you're up to date if anything changes. Flight times, seats, you name it and you know it instead of being surprised. Can come in very handy, for instance if the flight times chance to such an extend your connecting flight may no longer be doable. As it's the airline making these chances, they'll rebook you onto a connection that will work for you free of charge. Sometimes that can result in more desired times and/or flights than you had to begin with.

I'm so annoyed with myself

When I booked the flights in June I checked the flight on the Delta website and there were tons of seats left, I mean like only a dozen booked and I had the question about allocation in my head then, checked yesterday as per the advice all you guys gave and there are almost no seats left.

On the way to Atlanta we're in the middle row with one across the aisle so no window seats for the kids, from Atlanta to Orlando we have a 2 and 2 one in front of the other but with a stranger next to us, from Orlando to New York we're a 2 and 2 but away from each other (the third seat is empty at the moment) and New York to Manchester we are thankfully together with 3 and one across the aisle.

I am so annoyed I didn't ask the question back in June because we'd all be together and at the front of the plane not all over the place at the back

Lesson learnt for next time!

Keep checking. Folks tend to make changes, so you might be able to find something more to your liking. If not; check out OLCI. Still nothing you like? There's no harm in asking at the airport. Can't get worse than getting a ''no', which you've already got by than anyway.

Really, checking never hurts! Also you're going during a 'slower' time. Read; summer holidays are over. That's a huge plus. At those times flights are booked full a lot more.

I've been keeping an eye out on 'our' flight for a couple of weeks now (I'm a nutcase with these things, I know ), to see what loads are on it these last weeks, esp. on thursday as that's the day we fly. Since last week the flightload has dropped dramatically. From standardly overbooked flights, to flights with seats left over all of the time. Yesterday and today were probably about 50% maybe 60% full.

Not too unto Delta, but play around a bit to see if you can check this. Airlines tend to give this option on their mobile website, if they do hand that info out. It's very likely Delta is blocking an amount of seats at this moment, to offer to their frequent flyers. Most US carriers do so with blocking of 'more desirable' seats. They'll be open to general public at the time of OLCI. Another reason to log onto your reservation at that point, even if you don't do actual OLCI you can stil chance the seats around.
