Just FYI if anyone is looking to buy an inexpensive PC for the holidays, Dell has a Dimension 3000 on sale for $299+tax (no shipping!).
Nice little system.. great for internetting, homework and such.
Celeron 2.4GHz, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb Drive, CD-ROM, Windows XP (no monitor), speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc etc.

Hope this helps someone/saves $$$ for someone who's looking for a nice basic system!

I was thinking of getting one for myself but then I had a friend check it out and he said it wouldn't work for me since I play quite a few games. He said the video card isn't fast enough ... oh well!

www.dell.ca ;) Click on desktops.

It's definitely not a gaming machine, but not many Dell machines are. I don't play games so I guess that's why computers last me many many years.

I wish I didn't either *lol* It use to be it that even basic systems would support most games like the Sims. Now with the newest version, I had to specially pick out a graphics card so the game would run smoothly :)

IF at all possible, stay away from the celeron unless it's just basic computer use.

Well it's not like a Celeron is evil or anything. ;) .. granted it's not as quick as a P4, but sure as heck beats my ol' PIII. I think general comments like that about Celerons put the fear of god in those "less technically inclined" like they're going to blow up or be slower than the old PII they're replacing.

Personally I like Celerons cuz their cheaper, and again I'm not a gamer. :)

Geez, I was told they were EVIL and they would blow up! :earseek:

No just kidding! I can't even remember why I was told to stay away from them. But I think it had something to do with playing the games etc.,......

hehehehehe.. could you just imagine?! 1-year anti-blow up warranty, but then you're on your own. :P

Funny, you guys should mention a computer blowing up. My BIL got a brand new DELL, week ago Monday and last Friday evening (4:00 Saturday Morning) the monitor caught fire. It melted onto a wooden desk and onto hardwood floor. Thank God, their smoke detectors worked. It made quite a mess to clean up. The fire department took away the monitor to look it over. We're not sure what happened. Is it possible to program a computer to catch fire??
