I have a 3yr old Inspiron 600m. The video connector went bad. The keyboard lost a key and you can't just stick back on, they have to replace the whole keyboard. The hard drive went bad. A hinge on the screen broke and had to be replaced. And, there was the infamous battery recall, which wasn't their fault.
If you think I am saying don't buy a Dell, you are wrong. I am mean as a snake to my computer. Everything that happened, besides the battery was my fault. It was under the next business day warranty and they shipped the parts to a technician the same day I complained and in every case, had the laptop up and running within two days. You can not beat their service. Every consumer product, save toliet brushes and Dole Whips, will have a bad item or two, but at my job, we buy a couple of dozen computers per year and don't have many problems, except when neanderthals like me are given laptops with a free license to destroy and have fixed.
They have great product, good deals, and, since I only deal with top tier support, I can only comment on it, great support. They are making the most efficient machines for the dollar right now.
